I thought I was the only one to sing along with YYZ. *innocent whistle*

2112 with visuals and orchestra would be pretty kickass, despite the spinaltappiness.

Let me just say that I'm a huge Rush fan and Snakes and Arrows is second only to Moving Pictures, IMO. About equal to Permanent Waves.

As for the article, a B-side concert would kick so much ass, the only thing that would trump it would be a 2112 Orchestral arrangement. That could be insanely good.

An orchestral 2112 could either be really good or really cheesy. Knowing Rush I'm pretty sure it will be good, but you never know.

I figured that they were touring; haven't seen Geddy in his Blue Jays seats since the home opener. I've only seen them in concert a couple of times (the last time, maybe 10 years ago, they opened with Side A of 2112. Nice...) Their rehearsal space was right behind my school when I was a kid, so I actually had the chance to hear them practice hundreds of times between '79 and '84.

No. I agree. I think it's one of their worst songs from the early 80s era. They just play the same arrangement twice. It's filler for the otherwise kickass Moving Pictures.

I remember reading somewhere [maybe it was a critic] that Alex Lifeson's guitar solos are only interesting in the fact that it seems like he's trying to fit in / cram in as many notes as physcially/humanly possible into his solos...

maybe the critic was also cunningly citing his lack of 'feeling' in his guitar playing... subsituting raw guitar emotion...
for speed and many notes .

personally, I think that Alex's guitar solos are just fine. I couldn't imagine Rush without his technique and unique sound. He fits the songs, and the rest of the band's playing very well.

MatrixOutsider [TotalFark] 2008-04-21 12:53:41 PM
I love Rush and respect Alex as a musician. However, I read the police report and civil suit documents regarding the New Year's Eve tasering incident and it is clear that Alex got drunk and stupid that night. He probably deserved the beating and tasering he got as he interfered with his son's removal and arrest.

I heard it was his son who got all crazy and Alex was just trying to help his son when he got the shiat knocked out of him.

Rush + orchestra = fail. Please guys, leave that crap for Aerosmith.

B-sides tour? That sounds interesting. Start with playing songs from your best album, Presto. You seem to have disowned that album with the exception of one or two songs. That's criminal.

/huge Rush fan
//hated Presto for 6 months, but it's my favorite now

bv2112 2008-04-21 02:47:40 PM
A B-sides tour would be very welcome. As it is, I am tempted to sell the tickets I got for the July concert near DC. I've seen their last 3 tours (including the first leg of this tour), and in the 2008 leg of the S&A tour, in a 3-hour set they will be playing only ONE song I've never seen them perform live--and it's not even one I really like. They're really treating their fans as cash cows this time around.

I am much more excited for the Mark Knopfler concert--though Rush is my favorite band, MK is my favorite guitarrist, followed by Joe Bonamassa.

I'll step in between and say that Snakes and Arrows is not a great album, but contains 2 or 3 of my favorite songs by the band (Faithless and a couple others)

An orchestral 2112 would be interesting, to say the least. There's a symphonic Music of Led Zeppelin, with Randy Jackson of Zebra on vocals, and it's pretty cool.

THIS.
Both Rush and MK are coming to my city, and I only bought tickets for one. Guess which one? MK.
i mean, sure it'd be pretty cool to see Rush [plus they havent' been here since 1982] but I've been a DS/MK fan for more than twice as long as I've been a Rush fan. and the tickets were cheaper. and the venue is probably gonna be more intimate for MK, and a quite a bit smaller... [vs. Rush.....which would be in a big faceless alienating arena]
When's your MK show gonna be?

I'm afraid I have to immediately disregard your opinion based on the fact that you can't use the language correctly even when making incomplete sentences. There is no word "alot" in the English language. I generally couldn't care less if people spell or use grammar well, but if you're offering an opinion and you wish me to take it seriously, consider it, and potentially allow it to effect my world view then you have to at least communicate competently. I'd feel the same way if you wrote in all caps.

darch 2008-04-21 07:23:40 PM
I am a HUUUUUGE Rush fan, but I am also a cop and whenever I read about/see these types of incidents, it's NEVER black and white. There is always asshatery on BOTH sides.

If I had to guess, I would say that Alex's son was loaded beyond belief, jumped up on the stage and after being asked to leave the stage, most likely refused. Security got nervous and called the SD. SD steps in and becomes too overzealous with the touchy-feely-pushy/punchy/Tasery.

Trust me, dealing with abyssmally drunk people is the WORST. They THINK they're making perfect sense: meanwhile, they're spitting on you and challenging you, your partner, your father and your dead grandmother to a fight.

All in all, I'd say that no, Alex didn't deserve the Tasering, but his behavior was far from angelic. His statement of "we didn't even DO anything!" just doesn't wash.

Third_Uncle_Eno: When's your MK show gonna be?

I'm going twice, actually. I'll see them at Wolftrap in DC (I'll take my parents, since they will be visiting from Brazil) on July 22. Those tickets were $45 each, and they're about 24 rows from the stage. I'll also see him a couple of days later with some friends at the Mann Center in Philly. I got 3rd row tickets for $90. Both these venues are nice small amphitheaters that allow BYOB.

For Rush, I got sixth row center seats (before hearing about the setlist) for over $150. I think I'll still go and will probably enjoy myself, but I've already seen the show.

I've seen MK twice now (once he was touring with Emmylou Harris, which was nice, but I prefer his solo stuff) and Rush six times. Knopfler put on a much better show. He does smaller venues and tickets are cheaper, and I think a lot of it is because they don't spend as much on lasers and hi-res LED screens.

Oh, and lets not forget, Knopfler's lyrics are many standard deviations better than Peart's.
