"It's not as though I'm some idiot who got the measurements wrong and is now stuck with a boat he can't move," he said.

Oh.

I had the exact same thought! It made perfect sense to him at the time.

I worked with a guy who built a kit plane indoors knowing he would have to disassemble part of the house to get the fuselage out. He was renting so it was OK...
There was a whole wing assembly in his bedroom and the tail bits and pieces in the lounge room. The fuselage was in the sleep-out mounted on a jig that was concreted to the floor.

I don't see anything wrong with this. He knew he'd have trouble getting it out. But by building it close to home, he could get more work done in a shorter amount of time. Probably kept him motivated as well, since it was in his backyard and not miles away in a garage or whatever.

Ghostdog, great flick. Highly under-rated, as is Whitaker.

We'll pick your boat up and put it down like a baby, right where you want it. This is First of the Ninth, Air Cav,son- airmobile.

He can't tip it on it's side? Maybe charter a helicopter or rent a small crane?

You are correct, sir. Definitely one of those movies that where you pick up more little touches in a second viewing.

move a fence temporarily? how mundane.

maybe he can just flood his whole town and the boat will float out.
that would be news.

That's pretty cool looking. Doesn't look like much of a view once inside though.

Such fail! He's going to have to take the fence down and put it on a trailer. Meh.

He can just wait for the flood.

gmaki 2008-04-20 12:56:00 PM
It sounds like he just has to take the fence down. Not sure what the story is here?

Do you all think he should have built it small enough to fit through the gate?

Lamune_Baba 2008-04-20 12:59:43 PM
If only there were something that could be used to reduce the amount of force needed to lift an object? Perhaps some simple machine that could elevate the boat over small barriers without the use of a helicopter?

What's the big deal? He just has to remove the fence, get a semi with a flatbed, and boom, his boat is in the water.

There was talk at my high school (many years ago) that one of the science teachers had done something like that. Apparently he hadn't really considered just how he was going to get the plane out of his basement...

Earpj [TotalFark] 2008-04-20 01:08:15 PM
The comments on the site are saying that the main problem will be getting the wide thing down the narrow roads. Also, that he should call William to bring the helicopter to get it.

Judging by the fact that he did something so amazing as handmake a kick-ass yacht in his backyard, and also so dumb that he has no good, well thought-out exit strategy, I wonder if his financial advising goes something like this:

-Puts your money into creatively designed investment instrument
-Value grows at an impressively high rate
-Client asks to liquidate
-He tells client that actually you can't liquidate without losing all gains due early-liquidation penalties, but hey, I told you we could make the investment grow!

Oh, I meant to see things outside of the boat. I'd go for bigger windows.
