Wealthy people abusing public resources... shocking, truly shocking.

It's good to be the King, errr, Prince.

Beats the shiat out of trying to sneak the car out of the garage, eh?

I dated a girl who liked me to land my helicopter in her back garden.

/In the days of my euphs, I was told what it means to be a man

eqtworld: How can they let him stay in the RAF?

If any other pilot did that, landed a military helicopter pilot at his girlfriend's house... there would be severe consequences.

No other RAF pilot is going to be King. Nice work, if you can get it.

Eckyhade 2008-04-20 09:51:54 AM
His girlfriend and I both have big hade's.

Derexan 2008-04-20 09:54:44 AM
He's the farking prince.

I'd land my helicopter in her backyard too.

Indeed. However, it is nice to know that at least he's completing his military service.

The RAF has repeatedly refused requests by the Mail to confirm how much Wiliam's attachment has cost taxpayers, arguing that it would take too much manpower to sit down and work the figures out. not be worth it, as no one's going to do anything about it anyway. The country's like a Make-A-Wish Foundation For Royalty at this point - humor them.

I love reading public statements and trying to replace weasel words with the actual intended communication.

Any other pilot wouldn't be in line to be head of the combined armed services.

***

And it really makes no difference. He *could* have waited till off duty and gotten a private helicopter to fly him to his girlfriends house, but guess what, taxpayers would have paid for that, too - and probably paid more than this little stunt cost.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2008-04-20 09:57:15 AM
But on a more serious note, his shenanigans are unacceptable. What a spoiled brat Prince William is, and how stupid of the RAF to look the other way on the issue. A wag of my finger to both of them.

unicornrider 2008-04-20 09:57:20 AM
Prince William may have come up with the idea BUT his superiors (so to speak) approved. How is this HIS fault and how does this make him a 'dumbass'?

Mad Mark 2008-04-20 09:58:22 AM
Eyewitness also claimed the two princes dared girls in one pub to bare their breasts and partied into the early hours with a number of attractive young woman including a local lap dancer named Gigi La Chance.

GIGGITY-GIGITTY!!! GOO!

Dude, he didn't land it in your girlfriend's yard.

//you have a girlfriend -- am I assuming too much?

"It's going to leave a lot of people wondering where the sense of priority lies if very serious helicopters are being made available for this sort of thing at a time when they are in such extreme need."

Do they have whimsical helicopters for this sort of thing?

Considering that his instructors approved the flight, specifically as part of his training, I'm not sure who gets smacked, here - the Prince (who still has to obey orders,) or the folks giving the orders?

Tempest in a teacup. Better things about which to worry.

As long as he has Grandma's permission, he can take the farking 'copter wherever he wants.

He is due to be deployed with the Royal Navy in June for three months and will leave the army in January next year to become a full-time working royal.

I know what all those words mean but together they make no sense.

He could land it next to a farking burger king and order Chinese food if he wanted.

Lay off the Windsor Boys. They have been living, and will live, their entire farking lives in the fishbowl, having every moment of their lives watched and scrutized, commented on, criticized, second guessed, and so forth. They did not ask for this. Trying to "resign" from the job will get them no peace, since the press will continue to hound them.

The very least the Brits can do is let them have a little fun with their Gramma's aircraft....

Captain Darling 2008-04-20 10:13:02 AM
I fail to see the big deal. He flew a helicopter, landed it, then returned to base. That was his assigned mission. If he had done it in a random field we would not be reading about it, even though the real issue (should he be allowed to fly expensive aircraft) would be the same. At the end of the day he's in the military to get a brief tour of all the services. They aren't going to let him fight even if he wanted to stay.

At least he isn't like his father.

He wasn't riding a horse and he didn't end up marrying it.

My dad landed his helicopter (Cobra) in my mother's backyard when he was dating her. Rules say that if an emergency light goes off, you have to land immediately. I guess he knew what to do to make the emergency light go off.

/no, he didn't get in trouble

Crazy British. The kind of cunning stunt girls are looking for are of the lingus variety.

Oh come on...

First of all as far as landing the helo on the property of his gf, its not exactly like he landed in the middle of the suburbs of London. He was practicing landings/take offs in the middle of a field in the countryside. Its not like he flew there, landed, jumped out for tea and crumpets, shagged her and then took off.

As for picking up his brother to go to his cousins event...meh....well you don't have to be a royal to pull this sort of "training trip" ploy. I've seen millitary pilots practice their "long range" navigation techniques, except that once or twice a year they always seem to pick LA, or Las Vegas. And the military lets them, just a perk of service. They get their training in for the military and then get some time for themselves.

Honestly I'd be more annoyed about him out partying all night, depending on when his next flight was scheduled for.

Exactly. Hell, if any of you were a member of the Royalty, why not take advantage of the perks. It's not like he did something like Prince Phillip, and insult different races (or like Prince Harry, when he wore a Nazi uniform.) If I was Royalty, I'd ride a tank through Trafalgar Square like I was Michael Dukakis.

Isn't he "Royalty"? Cripes, if the future King of England wishes to land a friggin' copter in his girlfriend's backyard, let him!

What are they going to do? Revoke his princehood?

Heh, heh.

DulceEtDecorumEst: As the future King, doesn't the helicopter sort of belong to him anyway? At least, in a technical, outdated divine right monarchy sort of way?

I think when you really get down and parse hairs, the helicopter belongs to England. The people technically own England, the ruling monarch is just the steward of its possessions, peoples, land, etc. So while the current sitting royal does get to play with all the toys, he or she doesn't own them.

/Toys like an Air Force
//And a big farking checkbook
///And rubies as big as my fist
