Pat Leahy was the senator. Jack McMullen ran against him in 1998, but people thought that he was a carpetbagger, so they persuaded Fred Tuttle to run against him. As soon as Tuttle got the Republican nom, he endorsed Leahy.

The term refers to things that a person claims to know intuitively or from the gut without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or facts.

I don't think a statistician's study counts as lacking evidence, logic, or intellectual examination...that job is usually reserved for Fox News, isn't it?

Westlake Hills is actually West Lake Hills, and as for it being a small town, it may only have roughly 3100 residents, but it sits right up against Austin and has a median household income of over $100,000. That's not exactly what I picture when I think of a "small central Texas town."
