Drunks need jail. Cancer is a disease. Muscular distrophy is a disease. Alcoholism is not a real disease, he is just a drunkard.

You want to sit at home every night and get drunk, it is your business, and that of your family. Start driving, it is our business. This guy didn't kill anyone, but drunk drivers who do kill should be shot.

I find it interesting that his employer fired him after his arrest, but before his trial. Doesnt 'innocent until proven guilty' exist there anymore, or are employers exempt from that?
