The answer to 'the drug problem' in my not so humble opinion (in this case) is to, a.) legalize it, b.) enforce extremely strict penalties on crimes committed where drugs were a factor, and c.) provide ABSOLUTELY NO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE, FUNDING, AID, ETC. toward rehab, clean needles, etc. and the health/life insurance companies can fairly adjust their premiums. That way the whole lot of them (drug abusers) kill themselves off. We really have to stop preserving stupidity as a society. People want to consume toxins (be it drugs or Twinkies)? GREAT! No seat-belts? FABULOUS! Pack a day? OUTSTANDING, light up! Refuse to exercise, get fat, die of heart failure? Kudos, my friend.

You are a little extreme, but overall, I can agree with your idea. I look at it this way, the screwups will kill themselves off and the problems will level out within a year or so. In the end, we have a much lower prison population and the money spent to handle that. We also have a new tax base.

Pot is simply not addictive. Psychological addiction is just bullshiat. It's harder to quit caffeine than stop smoking pot.

I am proud of being a pot smoker, and it has made my life better. I have had no problems in my life related to the fact that I like to indulge in a little weed here and there. It has helped me win friends and influence people, and it keeps mosquitos away from me.

I dont know about that, its just annoys me when people act like they know whats best for everyone else. True that attitude is very prevelant in lots of religious people i know. I wonder whatever happened to love thy neighbor.

I am a programmer and used to be a network admin, so you I do know. The best, most friendly, smartest, non judgemental people, I have know were stoners. You could have a disagreement with them, no matter if it was poltics or program design, and they would be open to suggestions and actually debate the issue to come up with the best solution. I have not smoked in a year, (so much for the addiction argument), but my 20+ years of smoking were great. The only reason I don't smoke now, is I have no contacts, and in my job you have to be carefull. I do know that I came up with some of my best programming ideas while stoned. I could focus and think out of the box, (sorry for the buzzword).

I have know idiots in every aspect of life, some were straight, some stoners. Stupidity knows no bounds.

The one tiny flaw in your plan is that there is no population of people who are not predisposed to become addicted to drugs in the event that they are used. So making it easier to use drugs without any effort to preventing the damage that drugs cause just destroys more people.

I would say that if alcohol and tobacco are going to be legal, pot should be too, but that anyone who wants to use any of them should have to get a license to do so, or be unable (at least, less able) to get them.

crack and meth should always be highly illegal, and heavily penalized, even if you're caught with it in your system, not in your pocket. Cocaine, LSD, mushrooms, ecstasy, speed, ludes and suchlike should also require a license and be subject to extremely limited use (like once every two years or something). As for heroin, I would say it should be totally illegal like crack and meth, but I could see it as a state decision, although again, being extremely limited.

Oh yeah, and hookers. Lots of hookers.

None of you ever say, I am proud of being a pothead and it makes my life better. Probably because it doesn't.
It is a habit, for many an addiction.
Life is more enjoyable when you see reality clearly. I can see taking a peyote or mushroom trip in the desert once a year to reflect, but daily addiction/avoidance just isn't my cup of tea.
And yes, alcohol and tobacco are worse, but that doesn't mean pot is good.

I enjoy smoking marijuanna when im not at work. I have an advanced degree and make a pretty good living for myself and my family. Has it made my life better? Thats hard to say, it depends on what you mean by better. It is nice to come home after a long couple of weeks and smoke a bowl. It certainly has not made my life worse, or affected my life in a negative way. Im not trying to say pot is good, but thats each individuals choice on whether its right for them or not. To each their own is a motto i like to live by. Im not trying to tell you just because you dont approve of people smoking you are wrong. Thats your opinion which you are more than entitled to. Too bad I am a totally white guy:} I am in Phoenix, and that is the policy, if it is not a violent crime, deport them. If I was darker, I could get away with it. Get popped on a Friday night, deported on Saturday, back on Sunday. I would not even miss work:}

What gets me is that in Dallas, I have seen lifelong friends get drunk and kill each other over dominoes. I have also seen pot smokers that wanted to come to blows, talk it out, because they were stoned and would rather talk than fight.
