(Daily Mail) Sad Children are more than twice as likely to be injured falling out of bed as they are tumbling out of a tree because they can't get their fat little carcasses away from the Xbox   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 66

I fell out of more trees than beds as a kid. I loved climbing trees. When I wasn't playing video games.

Does this mean in 20 years everyone will be attractive because nobody will have fallen out of the ugly tree?

I'd never fallen out of bed, but when my brother and I had bunk beds, one night he kicked the top bunk (my bunk) so hard that it knocked me over. As he recalls it, he saw me wake up during my fall to the ground... I have no memory of this. I imagine it would've been funny as hell.

wavion [TotalFark] 2008-04-19 12:07:18 PM
I also loved climbing trees, when I was a kid. I climbed them all the time. I never fell out of one. Because I was awake.

Well I have fallen out of my bed one time (Like Kome I awoke as I was falling.). And I have yet to break my leg falling out of a tree.

I've also woken up while falling (out of a bunkbed.) Never fell out of a tree, although I climbed a lot of them, maybe because I wasn't a bad climber.

For those who haven't experienced this, it's like:
"Hmmwhat? Uhhh where am I... oof. Hey, why am I on the floor. Man, I should go back to sleep."

Then whoever is on the bottom bunk wakes up and laughs at you.

only twice as likely? That's pretty good considering the amount of time you spend in a bed vs. a tree.

love climbing trees, so much fun.

Not ironic. Would be ironic if the beds were made of iron.

Wait...

I fell out of my bunkbed while I was asleep when I was a kid once. Woke up on the way down, which was terrifying and pretty painful.

It was more painful because I had stayed up late the previous night building with knex and my floor was covered in small, pointy plastic things.

/now I don't move when I sleep. At all.

Man, looks like a lot of people have a falling out of bed story when they were little.

I fell out of the top of my bunkbed - Woke up on the way down and was able to twist around and land on all fours. Somehow my head missed the corner of my desk which was placed right next to the bed. There was very little space between it and the bed - To this day I haven't been able to figure out why I wasn't tagged by it.

Anyway after that I climbed back up and went back to sleep.

I fell out of my bunk bed once. My head hit the window sill. The emergency room at 3 am is pretty interesting to a kid. It was the first time I had gotten stitches and it wasn't the last.

Ouch, that's even worse than the time I landed on concrete at summer camp. Fortunately I was still in my sleeping bag so the bruises weren't too bad and I didn't break anything.

ProdigalSigh 2008-04-19 12:57:24 PM
I too fell out of bed once as a kid, I too woke up on the way down. However it was not a bunk bed, just a normal twin so I woke up about an inch above the ground. Didn't hurt, it was just really really surprising.

Only ever fell out of a tree once, a branch that had supported my weight gave out while I was hoisting myself to the next one, eight foot drop onto my back. Didn't hurt and wasn't nearly as surprising since the branch cracked loudly and I had that cartoonish second before gravity kicked in to think, "Oh damn, I hope I don't land on the cat".

No, it isn't. Agaves aren't actually a cactus, first of all, they're a succulent in a different family - closer to the lilies than to actual cacti. And they don't look anything like whatever that is - they have tall, spiky, thick leaves.

Try getting bounced out of the top bunk in a cabin on an Amtrak train in the middle of the fraking night on a god damn mountain. And landing on a dufflebag with steel toe boots in it. and half of a chair. face down. ow.

/that little strap you hook the ceiling to keep you from rolling out dont do SHIAT when the car is bouncing hard enough.

Where the heck did the kid in the bottom picture get a controller that has the buttons and analog stick flipped? I've never seen one like that.

I fell out of a lofted bed my freshman year of college. Broke my wrist when I landed. Anywho, the most embarassing part was that as I was in collge, I was 100% sober when this happened. I just woke up from a nap, and was climbing out, and fell.

I fell out of bed once when I was a little kid. My folks just put my mattress on the floor until I got older. That being said, I've fallen out of my fair share of trees, but was fortunate enough to escape with nothing worse than some scrapes, bumps & bruises.

happyandwithnopants 2008-04-19 02:34:04 PM
My husband's college roommate had a lofted bed with sheets tacked up around it. The roommate one day (while under the influence of several things) fell out of his bed, completely naked, onto the futon where he proceeded to pick up a controller and join in the video game in progress. Until his roommates reminded him that he had a girl in his bed.

I fell 25 ft out of a tree last year, landed on my back, and was just fine

about 5 years ago i fell out of bed, cut open my cheek and had to get 13 stitches

I broke my arm falling out of a tree. THe very lowest branch....I felt more embarrased than hurt. I wanted to see a movie that day. Of course it was immensely painful and I could hardly think straight, but I was still embarrased. It was one of those "once in a lifetime deals" where I landed just right on my arm, at just the wrong angle.

Pre-ordered from Amazon, along with Mass Effect. I won't be falling out of any trees anytime soon.
