I hope his collection only goes for £20 and he has to make up the other £54980 by some other means.

When I worked for the IRS I saw many companies who reported the amount their employees embezzled as wages or 1099 it as "Other Income".

Naturally, the embezzlers didn't report it on their returns, so the IRS would go after them for the unreported amounts, including interest and penalties.

It's an inexpensive way to get the gov't to do your prosecuting for you!

So the only use a stamp collection has is embezzlement collateral?

Good thing I don't embezzle. I'd have to pick up the dorkiest hobby in the world.

/SO getting flamed by stamp collectors
//the coin collectors are laughing at you

What is going to stop the embezzeler from cheating the eBay buyers?

Oh wait....

I detect some sarcasm. What, exactly, is partial about it?

Don't worry, I think I'm the only one, and I'm harmless.

One purpose to collecting stuff like that is so you can hide money. Put it in the bank, there is a record. Buy stuff, not always. And stamps, coins, baseball cards etc can be very valuable, and the size factor helps, small enough to put a fortune in one suitcase.
