That is really quite sad.

They were always my favorite rock ensemble. (after the Mg's)

There's a darkness on E Street tonight.

RIP Danny.

Shame. He was fantastic on the Partridge Family.

Sad. His playing was an integral part of the E Street Band's sound.

Last time I saw him with the band was in October. Going again in the summer, and he will certainly be missed.

RIP Danny

I gotta say that subby's headline reminded me of what a farkin' brilliant song Atlantic City is. It's incredibly good. I really need to get that album again. I lost it while moving house.

Awful, awful news. Thought things were going well after he showed up in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago.

I feel like family has died. We will miss you, Phantom Dan.

Taxee 2008-04-18 08:02:37 AM
Well, now we got Cliff Davies on drums and Danny on keyboards. I think some guitar/bass players should be concerned right about now.

/It's got the makings of a pretty good warm up band for John Lennon & George Harrison on guitars, John Entwhistle on bass, and Keith Moon on drums.

So sad.....makes you think about how quick life can go by. First, we lost Sean Costello, a great blues guitarist who was only 28, and now Danny. Damn.

RIP

And now this.

I'm off to check summmer concert schedules and death pools.

Good to see one of these finally got green-lit. Guess they changed shifts...

Bad news, though, didn't know he was ill so this was a shock to see last night. The guy had been playing with Springsteen even longer than Garry Tallent, I think. Suppose I'll always picture him as he looked on the back of The Wild, The Innocent And The E-Street Shuffle.

Blame Microsoft. He took one look at that Vista video (new window) and just lost the will to live.

Glad I managed to finally see E Street last October, with Danny. A critical piece of the Springsteen sound on so many tunes.

Damn. One of my early musical passions was The Boss. Saw them plenty in the 70's. I never bothered to get tickets lately for E Street because it seemed there'd always be another next year, and I don't do stadium type shows anymore, if I can help it. Very sad day for rock 'n' roll.

I did catch the Seeger Sessions in Asbury. Good fun there, with Max Weinberg Seven horns and such. Good fun. But damn, that hurts.

RIP Danny

His accordion on "Youngstown" on "Live in NYC" made it GREAT.

The Band in its later incarnations also did a pretty decent cover of AC. Gotta love Levon Helm singing it.

RIP :(

I grew up as a Springsteen fan because of my dad, and now my brother's into his music too.

Only 30 odd comments? I'm surprised.
Saw the E Street Band PLENTY starting in the mid '70s but now?
Meh.

I out grew Springsteen when I realized that I didn't need to hear the political thoughts of a guy who barely made it thru high school.

But still...I was listening to the Springsteen channel on AOL radio and was reminded of some great old songs and introduced to a few new ones.

"Sandy" is a GREAT song and "The Wild, The Innocent..." is still his best album just for sheer audacity of what he did...

RIP Danny, you were part of something that gave me a lot of joy and happiness.

Agreed. Too few care enough to comment, or for this to go to main page, and I think that's partly because the Born in USA Bruce is what many people remember. But Bruce was the first band I went to see regularly where you got up and boogied. I was into the prog-rock stuff. Sit back and listen. Impressive, but fairly passive. Folk rock, same thing, pretty much. Alice Cooper, Bowie, stage shows meant to be watched and not danced to. But Bruce, yeah man. Chanting back lyrics and fist pumping. God, that was fun. Bruce and Clarence climbing speaker stacks, nobody spent more energy than Bruce, and you did the same.
But I moved on to Grateful Dead and what not. But thanks, Boss, thanks Big Man, thanks Danny, Max, Professor, Garry. You taught me how to rock when much of the world was going down Disco Highway.

Okay, enough. Selah

/First thing I did when I heard this news here on fark, I put on Wild & Innocent. Rocks your socks off.

Agreed. Watching him on the accordion as they played American Land to end a show in November was great too, knowing then that he was sick. I'd hoped showing up in Indy last month was a sign of healthier times... RIP, Danny. E-Street will never be the same.

This should have been main page. Precious few acts are still turning out stuff of the quality E-Street is (Rising and Magic) 30 years after they hit the scene.

/puts on pirated CD from the current tour
//Ohh oh oh oh Thunder Road...

I have a great old boot of a show I was listening to on the radio when it was on live.

Main Point Bryn Mawr, PA 2/5/75 Fantastic.

Here are the rescheduled Florida dates from Springsteen's website:

Ft. Lauderdale: Friday, May 2
Orlando: Wednesday, April 23
Tampa: Tuesday, April 22

mfaby:

I out grew Springsteen when I realized that I didn't need to hear the political thoughts of a guy who barely made it thru high school.

It wasn't that for me, so much as it seemed that his music had become so rigidly anthemic so much of the time. I don't mind people speaking out on political issues -- they can reach a lot of people, and despite having only a high school education, I don't think anyone's going to call the guy ignorant. I don't really get the impression that his "people" are whispering in his ear that attaching himself to this or that cause would be good for his career. Seems like he's someone who's pretty well versed on whatever he takes his stands for or against.

Not to mention that there's a whole world full of college-educated types who are still dumb as a stump.

Nice. KLOL in Houston used to have a recording of "Fever" that I think was done in their studio back around '73 or '74 -- could be wrong on the details of how it was made, but I'm pretty certain on the time frame. Houston was a place he had played and built up a following in even before the Born To Run frenzy started, and they would play that on the radio pretty often. I wish I had seen them at Liberty Hall back then; would've been great to see them when David Sancious was still in the band. Not to mention the small venue -- by the time I saw him there, it was at the 3000-seat Music Hall.
