He added: "Fifty years ago we'd have you tied upside-down with a fork up your ass!"

Come on people. They're called term limits, and they prevent all sorts of delicate situations:

On the Hill, it is common knowledge that Thurmond's staff makes the policy decisions. Indeed, one high-ranking Democratic staffer says Thurmond's longtime chief of staff, Robert "Duke" Short, "serves effectively as a senator." Short has his hands full. Thurmond is prone to embarrassing mistakes, such as when he told a local South Carolina newspaper in December that he was about to turn 88, off by a decade. When Thurmond shows up for committee hearings--an increasingly rare occurrence--he either doesn't speak or reads in a slurred and uncomprehending voice from prepared note cards. -Link (^)

i'm with you in theory. the only problem is that byrd was one of the most vocal and eloquent opponents of the war in iraq from the get-go, so he gets a lifetime pass from me.

a pass which is worth, what, six or seven months at this point?

still, i'd rather see him grooming a successor than lingering in the halls of power until he dies...

You joke, but someone was complaining about "Negroes" last week in the Beckley WV. paper.

"Well he's a former KKK member, but in his 50th year in congress he voted against a war I'm against, so he's OK!" LOL

I voted for him. I don't regret it. Even senile, he's still better than the alternative: crazy, rabid businessman John Raese whose main objectives are the elimination of workplace safety measures and the repeal of all environmental regulations. He even said we should look to China's labor force as a role model.

So, yeah: Goooo, Bobby!

Because shut up! That's why.

Now who's senile?

If Obama is nominated, Byrd will support McCain because Byrd hates blacks.

/Did I tell everyone that Byrd shakes at times when he speaks?

I was thinking when I read that, that I wouldn't like to be that guy's neighbor.

No I think he said "nigras." I'm also surprised he didn't flip them the Byrd.
