I love this song soooo much. Will have to check out that cover. I also like the versions by Caliente, The Damned, and Susanna Hoffs & Matthew Sweet.

That album sucked a multitude of different flavored anus.
Exceptionally overrated crap.
I'm ashamed to have downloaded it, wasted electricity.
I give it negative 3 stars...

/they owe me three stars.

I dunno, IMHO there are a few great songs on it, but the rest are pretty much average psychedelic? rock/pop for the time... generally good/great lyrics, tho...
i think it's a somewhat overrated album.

Love this album!

I really like the studio version better. It's use in 'Bottlerocket' was classic.

//Also loves UFO's version.

You dumb f*cks from above do of course realize "Forever Changes" was released in 1967 right?

Love/Lee had a profound influence on The Doors,Hendrix,Robert Plant
and many others.

"Forever Changes" is regarded by people who don't have their heads lodged in their asses as one of the single most staggeringly original and auspicious rock records of all time.

Velvet Underground/Nico,Sgt Peppers and Pet Sounds are in the same league as well.

I never even knew who/what Love was until The Duke Spirit released an EP with a cover of 3 Love songs and the ska song "Shanty Town" (which was appropriately called "Covered in Love").

/and the streets are made of gold and if you don't think so, you can hold my hand

Thanks for setting the record straight.

Again, people talking about things they don't know about. This is the band Jim Morrison was hoping the Doors would be as good at and they pretty much aped that band when they first started....

and It gets amazing reviews by anyone. anywhere you bother to read

How 'bout you just settle for a participation ribbon and count yourself lucky?

Great song. Calexico plays it pretty much every show.

(every show I've seen, at least. "Hey, 'Alone Again Or'!")

uh... dude... yes "Forever Changes" was released in 1967.
But The Doors and Hendrix were also around and released albums in 1967 as well. [and maybe were formed before 1967 as well... along with Love]. They were all together at the same time. It's not like Love was BEFORE Hendrix and the Doors were influenced by them afterwards... they were influenced by Love while all of them were working and still around.
Yes, there were many great albums in 1967.

yeah Forever changes is 67 but keep in mind there was 2 albums before that one also. Thats why they are quoted as influences for Morrison ect..

They were local fixtures for years in san fransisco before 67, but they refused to leave the state to tour. Thats why i think they never made it has big as they could've

I tried to find the Morrison quote where he talks about them, but you go and try a google search with a word as general as "love" aha

Oh shiat!! I forgot[?]/didn't know that they had (2!!)albums before "Forever Changes". I thought they were just a singles band before/until "forever changes". i'm sorry. i stand corrected.
[your previous point is now well taken].

yeah... true dat re: googling "love" and getting limited useful results... i remember doing that when i first heard of them...
[i first heard them, "alone again or" on the psychedelic sunday morning show on a local rock station...i was intrigued...]

"Orange Skies" off of 'De Capo' is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life, but Love is still one of my favorite bands ever.

This song was supposedly a tribute by guitarist Bryan McLean to his mom, who was a flamenco dancer, which explains the awesome rhythms and obvious flamenco influences.

Love it, and also love the cover by The Damned.

craigdamage 2008-04-17 10:14:50 PM
Hendrix not only was inspired by LOVE's music---he dressed like Arthur Lee as well.

LOVE had a version of "Hey Joe" out before anybody else.(Hendrix,Deep Purple)

LOVE's first record came out I think in 65 and pre-dated the Doors and Hendrix both.(Bruce Botnick was affiliated with both Love and the Doors)

If "Orange Skies" was one of the "worst" songs I had ever heard I would consider myself very fortunate.

Well, admittedly it's no "Lucretia McEvil"....but it's gettin' there!

I like Alone Again Or but I never understood why it gets so much focus. There are 10 other songs on the album, and some of them exceed AAO.

For example, Robert Plant says "A House Is Not A Motel" is one of his favorite songs of all time.

Respect the whole album!
