You mean the Estonians and Ukrainians whose "combat tour" consists of wandering around the Camp Liberty PX all day trying on cheap Oakleys, and leaving the fighting to the Americans?

That pretty much showed how much political capital he didn't have.

Not to mention the way the economy is melting down it would have been a disaster for SS only a few years later.

Want a graphic example of why the cons are such born losers.

Talk to a few about privitization of SS.

Even though todays economy proves what a stupid idea privitzation would have been you can still find all kinds of cons that think it's a great idea.

This guy is such an embarrassment. Many people hate him. Many more think he's a miserable failure. And from his own track record he's pretty much a failure at life.

I'll give him points for being a decent family man, and I would say that's a pretty easy accomplishment, but looking around and seeing how farked up American society is nowadays, at least he can claim himself being a winner at home.

To be honest, no one ever really cared what he said internationally, for a number of reasons:

1: They couldn't understand him (even the english speakers of the world).
2: He wasn't looking for a conversation, just saying what he was going to do, then doing it. Farewell diplomacy.
3: What he said was bullshiat anyway.

Then naturally you should let them all opt-out, correct? The current economy isn't a factor for people that understand investing and preparing for retirement. If you haven't moved a large portion of your assests into low-risk investments (including cash) in order to escape market volatility at least a few years before you retire, you're an idiot.

A financial advisor can help you figure out your retirement plan. If you're counting on your social security check when you retire, you're taking a bigger risk than I am. If I could put that money into my IRA, I would opt to do that in a heartbeat.

I hope you're just talking about putting the existing system into private investments. If that's the case, yeah, that would be stupid.

But I'll bet I can plan for my retirement better than the government. I wouldn't even mind if the government FORCED me to invest the same amount as SS into a private retirement fund. I'd grumble, but I'd understand. It's a just another government entitlement program that's impossible to get out of.

They're always the last to know.

People around the world have felt this way about Bush from the start, but after the way he lashed out with all the "hates America" Bullshiat everyone just kept smiling and nodding about him until lately, now that his term is almost up.

one European official says, "What he says doesn't matter so much any more"

I'm a little confused. I presumed that the quotation marks implied the statement was quoted from the article, yet I can not find the statement in the article. Did I miss something? Is there another source? Or is the use of quotation marks yet another antiquated linguistic convention I need to reject in order to communicate with my intellectual peers?

Odd. When this was first greenlit, it was a direct quite from the second page of the article. Now, Reuters has gotten rid of the quote and scaled down the article from 3 pages to one.

Ditto. The most positive response was simply to say they were happy to finally have something to work with. Great.

As opposed to Europeans...whose words haven't mattered much on an international scale since the '50's.

Ah you might not have noticed but SS is for more people than just you.

The government's ss plans are for everybody and they haven't missed a single payment.

Not one.

Wall Street can't touch that record.

That's either some great trolling or some astounding ignorance. With SS some people would have NOTHING. Relying on SS is foolish indeed, but it is all that millions of people have. You can thank rich assholes for making sure the poor stay poor.

Guntram Shatterhand: But then again, we have yet to see how he'll deal with life after January 2009.

Hmm... will W become an elder statesman of the party, sought after for his sage advice and counsel by future presidents?

Or will he accept multiple, family-connection Board of Directors positions, and maybe some speaking engagements where he can can giggle and fumble his words to the delight of the retarded 21% still enamored of him?

Because for some reason, I don't picture him spending his post-presidential free time addressing world hunger (Bill Clinton) or working with Habitat for Humanity (Carter). No, he'll slide back into his pre-presidential, dull-eyed, incurious, uninformed, non-brush clearing life pretty quickly.
