I have no doubt that Jimmy Carter is a nice guy and a true humanitarian, but meeting with Hamas is completely asinine.

As someone pointed out in a previous Hamas/Carter thread, the IRA disarmed and Northern Ireland has become peaceful because the opposing sides began talking.

Yeah Hamas is a bunch of a-holes but they won the last election democratically. Maybe they'd shoot less rockets into Israel if they felt more engaged politically.

Frankly, this shows that this particular extremist group (and I'm sure there are many like it) is so far up its own butthole with manufactured outrage at the West that they don't even know which teat to suckle when the sow rolls over.

Is there anyone with Carter's credentials who is more willing to listen to their side? Have they not paid any attention to what he has been endlessly criticized for here in the US and Israel?

Either they need to take time out from their busy schedule of killing innocent people and do their homework or we all need to just quit pretending that they are worth listening to at all.

The reality is though the feelings are mixed on both sides of it.

I dated an Israeli girl for a while. She was not a settler or a zealot zionist, just an average secular girl. I asked her one time would she rather have peace or have all of the palestinians dead her answer was "Of course everyone would like peace, however you just cant trust the arabs". The answer was sad , but understandable.

On the other hand my uncle is arab, born and raised in Nabalus and Jordan. He now lives in america and is married to a jewish woman. He still wishes to see israel destroyed.

Irrational hatred runs deep on both sides sadly every day the "Glass parking lot" solution seems more and more inevitable.
