he's talking up iranian aggression, she says "i think we need to remember this is iran, who hasn't invaded another country since what, the 1700s?"

What did they expect? Cripes, how can 2 sides of the same coin carry on a debate? The only difference between the 2 is skin color and what's (purportedly) between their legs.

burndtdan 2008-04-16 11:01:51 PM
by the way, i heard a lot of people talking about they were against obama... they certainly asked him more of the stupid questions, but i don't think they were being nice to hillary. the moderators had an agenda against the candidates in general, they were just aiming at obama because he's in the lead.

i say that to clarify the my completely disgusted reaction at the debate. it wasn't "omg they are slanted against obama", it was "what the fark is wrong with the moderators?"

definitely couldn't talk about the top white house officials being directly involved in war crimes and what they thought of that. couldn't possibly have discussed their reactions to stuff john mccain has said or done. there are a ton of legitimate substantive and purely political questions they could have asked.

The problem with stuff like that is both of them are political whores, so they'll say whatever they think will get them into office. Like I said, they're 2 sides of the same coin.

oh, so obama directly criticizing the questioner about bringing up the stupid attack lines when people are losing their homes and dying in iraq is him being a political whore?

here's a poignant comment from the article

We have our kids dying in Iraq, our government spying on us, two airlines about to form the largest airline in the world and increase prices, a failing mortgage system, are fighting two wars, Oil at 114 a gallon, gas approaching 4.00 and they asked about a frigging flag pin....a flag pen, a MF flag pen?

I did enjoy Obama smacking down Stephanpolis. This debate was a great representation of what's wrong with the media coverage of politics right now though.

there were two lines in the debate i laughed at. the 8 years old line, and hillary saying "i might be a lot of things, but i'm not dumb"

also, the second inspired a q&d photoshop cause it reminded me of the quote...

At least the initial reports over the wire are topped with the paragraph "Hillary Rodham Clinton said emphatically Wednesday night that Barack Obama can win the White House this fall, undercutting her efforts to deny him the Democratic presidential nomination by suggesting he would lead the party to defeat," with a headline of "Clinton Emphatically Says Obama Can Win White House."

That is one of the greatest chuckle-worthy moments out of this otherwise farking travesty of a debate.

Seriously: I could have run a better debate.

If only Obama had quoted Bill Hicks when asked the stupid flag-pin question:

"I personally do not believe in burning the flag. It's a personal belief, but I'll tell you something, I think people are overreacting, oh, just a little bit. 'Hey buddy, my daddy died for that flag.' Well, I bought mine. Sorry. You know they sell them at K-Mart for three bucks, you're in, you're out, brand new flag, no violence was necessary. 'Hey buddy, my daddy died in the Korean war for that flag.' What a coincidence - mine was made in Korea!"

Obdicut: Seriously: I could have run a better debate.

Me, too. I would have demanded that Obama take a shot of Crown Royal, and Clinton bowl a few frames...you know, the important stuff.

oh wait...that's pretty much how it went.

At this stage (#21!?), I knew it would suck, but I was genuinely shocked (I say) out the level of suck. Was this sponsored by the RNC and/or McCain '08?

Riiiiight... oh, and the fact that one takes money from PACs and lobbyists like a fat kid takes cupcakes from a buffet, while the other gives them the finger and tells them to f*uck off.

If elected President, which do you think would be more likely to actually try and fulfill any of their promises? The one that owes favors to a dozen major corporations and entities who would be financially hurt by the policies, or the one that doesn't owe dick?

F*cking "both the same" dumbasses... They could be asked to choose between Grover Cleveland and Howard Taft and they'd claim they were two sides of the same coin.

Especially when he's been so vocal about it himself in the past. Check this out..

"In the 27 years since the Iranian Revolution, the United States has launched air strikes on Libya, invaded Grenada, put Marines in Lebanon, and run air strikes in the Bekaa Valley and Chouf Mountains in retaliation for the Beirut bombing.

We invaded Panama, launched Desert Storm to liberate Kuwait, and put troops into Somalia. Under Clinton, we occupied Haiti, fired cruise missiles into Sudan, intervened in Bosnia, conducted bombing strikes on Iraq, and launched a 78-day bombing campaign against Serbia, a nation that never attacked us. Then, we put troops into Kosovo.

After the Soviet Union stood down in Eastern Europe, we moved NATO into Poland and the Baltic states and established U.S. bases in former provinces of Russia's in Central Asia.

Under Bush II, we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, though it appears Saddam neither had weapons of mass destruction nor played a role in 9/11.

Yet, in this same quarter century when the U.S. military has been so busy it is said to be overstretched and exhausted, Iran has invaded not one neighbor and fought but one war: an eight-year war with Iraq where she was the victim of aggression. And in that war of aggression against Iran, we supported the aggressor."

I thought Snuffleupagus was a bad choice, with his previous allegiance to the Clintons. Additionally, it seemed like they stuck with the less than helpful topics and just went for the shock value questions for both of them, at least the first half.

keytronic 2008-04-17 12:53:04 AM
I think the most under-handed part of the debate was the Ayers reference. That had every sign of a hit job.

Despite the fact that Obama has almost no connection to the man other than the fact that they have met one another, Huffalopolous brings it up.

David Ross got it right...the mere fact that Ayers name was mentioned means another two or three days of the media dropping his name and Obama's name in the same sentence. With less than a week to go before the Pennsylvania vote, this may just be the thing Hillary needs to cling to in order to stave a Pennsylvania loss.

George Stephanopolous's hit job for his old boss probably just cost him is journalistic reputation.

I'd forgotten that for months now Charlie Gibson has been asserting that $200,000 is a solid middle-class income, blissfully unaware that just 3.4 percent of U.S. households have an income of $200,000 or more. You could be richer than 96 percent of your fellow citizens, but still just folks to Gibson. Obviously that's not on a par with being bad at bowling or anything on the "out of touch" scale, but it's still disappointing to learn that even our salt of the earth working class multimillionaire television news personalities aren't utterly infallible.

That's an outrageous assertion. We supported both sides during the Iran-Iraq War. Selling someone munitions and valuable aircraft components is a funny way of not assisting them, no? It just so happens that Iran wasn't as careful with its mining of the Persian Gulf as Iraq was so we had to overtly support Iraq by attacking the Iranian navy.

That aside, why refer to the Soviet republics of Central Asia as "former provinces" whereas Poland and the Baltic States suddenly achieve national status? Was the Tsar's reign and their later incorporation into the Soviet Union not as complete as their Moslem counterparts from the steppe?
