/didn't like Strays though

Good. Everything they've released without him as has sucked (even with Flea on board...). Too bad it doesn't sound like he'd rejoin them in the studio...

Strangely, I was listening to them today at work and wishing for such a thing to happen.

/Tomorrow I'm going to wish for a steak & BJ

In a statement from Avery, the bass player explains, "I've chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons.
"I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around.
"The reason I started to even consider this is because it's honouring the past instead of trying to recreate it."

Translation: I need the money

zorgon: I got a kid born in 1991 who's looking at colleges now.

What a coincidence. I am a kid who was born in 1991 who is currently looking at colleges.

/and working on a paper about Jaco Pastorius that I procrastinated on but that is not the issue here.
//VCU is looking good.

Saw them live at Iguana's in Tijuana in '89. Saw Social Distortion there, too, right around the same time. Two of the best shows I've ever seen.

/ Get off my lawn.

Raspil 2008-04-17 03:45:40 AM
i saw that 1991 tour, too.

In other news, Hillel Slovak's corpse has been reanimated with large amounts of coffee and will rejoin with the Chili Peppers at Bonarroo 2008.

Hey Rent Party Iguana's was the BEST place for a show, missed JA there but saw The Ramones, The Damned, Primus, Psychic TV, Firehose, Iggy Pop, Nirvana, and others, god that place rocked.

Ever notice you never see Janes Addition and Red Hot Chili Peppers in the same place at the same time?

hiltinuts2 2008-04-17 08:07:43 AM
'91 back when Navarro had a soul.

Dreadstar [TotalFark] 2008-04-17 08:14:57 AM
Too bad it only sounds like a one-off at this point. Hope they tour and/or put out another record.

/actually liked Strays

Amen brother. At the Social D show, some dude got hit in the head with a pipe after getting all bad ass on some locals. They dragged his bleeding, unconscious self over the border.

It was awesome.

Eric Avery is the secret ingredient to the Jane's recipe. Murky, moody, ambivalent. Often imitated, never equalled.

listening to his album now. A little overproduced, but I always thought it would've been interesting had JA continued as a 3-piece without Perry. Eric probably could've taken over vocally.

Eric Avery?

Praising Eric Avery's musicianship is like praising McDonald's cuisine. He's definitely the Ringo of JA.

Sure, they put out two good albums and an EP with him, and have never been as good without, but that's mostly due to Fairy Peril being a one (maybe two) trick pony and running out of interesting ideas.

Didn't like their version. Give me the rolling stones version anyday.

/that being said, Three Days is still the best song ever

YAY! Eric Avery is one of the bassist I wish I could play like. Flea's good, but not near the same type. I'd almost sell a nut to got to this!!!!
