There was a time in the mid-late 80's when you couldn't turn on the radio or MTV w/o hearing Yes, Talking Heads, Genesis, Rush, etc 15-20 times a day.

Mostly by default. There weren't that many videos then. I remember the first year of MTV. I saw Fleetwood Mac followed by Devo followed by Captain Beefheart followed by Blondie.
Great days.

I read that as "Preg Rock Bands."

My god, the wiki page is just full of homos arguing about "the real sound" and "true meaning" of their crappy ambient noise then running off to cry in their room. God Yes sucked, sucks, and will continue to suck.

No?

Didn't think so.

Nope, I was wrong. This is the one I was thinking of, even earlier: Beyond and Before with Peter Banks on guitar.

This is from Beat Club, German TV, 1970 or 71.

Good clip, though I am only a casual Yes fan.

Really?

This is probably the first time since 1997 that I've been completely and utterly apathetic about an upcoming Yes tour.

This is, what, their 5th tour since the last time they wrote or recorded anything?

Yes but those bands and bands of their ilk (who are currently active ) are not "economically viable" in today's marketplace, we need more room for commercials. Just someone pull my stings, I'm sure to go far.

You'll get your medal right after you help me with this- Here, hold this hose so the opening is facing you and tell me when the phosphorus slurry comes out of the end.

I remember seeing Rick Wakeman actually perform the entire "Journey to the Center of the Earth" album on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert one time. That was a great show; better than Midnight Special, IMO.

That was with orchestra, and I think it wasn't Kirschner. I sat mesmerized and confused during it. Wish I could pick it up, and the best of California Jam, and the complete Midnight Special series.

And, while I'm dreaming, Night Music.

I just don't get why someone would bother to come into a prog rock thread to tell people he doesn't care about it. Whoopee. At least be funny about it.

No, just that you use different standards of "cleverness" for yourself than others. Whatever, I call special olympics on this.

Take it easy dude, all I did was call you a whiner, which is a legitimate point. Your repartee has consisted mainly of "homo" and hair insults. Cleverness was never an issue.

We may have to put up with Nickelback and Maroon 5 now, but there was a time when our poor unfortunate forefathers had to tolerate Yes and ELP.

I never got the hate for prog rock. What did they do that's so offensive? The issue today is that it's more about the money and the looks; what was it back then? Is their music too complicated for you?

Yes is a good band. And you're a dickhead.

computerkurt 2008-04-16 08:40:38 AM
Another vote for Yes, real musicians, real composition, and real musical promotion. Every one of these musicians could have had a solo act (and did later). Name a band today that has been "allowed" to make it big that can say the same thing.

And I'll be seeing them in Tampa this summer! =D =D

And bighasbeen, I'll bet you five shiny Sack o' Jaweya dollar coins that you like rock bands that whines about shiat and tries to cover it up by playing hard rock.

"The pistol's shaking in my hand :( :("
"You want to take your life :( :( :("

farking rock is full of farking whiners today. Don't let the guitar-shredding deceive you.

bigbottom 2008-04-16 09:18:03 AM
Unlike many of today's hitmakers, YES were and are ARTISTS! They created art/music, and were creative, like The Doors and many other bands of their time. They didn't paint themselves with tattoos so they coould sell heavy metal to bikers. They created music for people who appreciated creativity. Those were the days!

People who judge musicians by their clothes are why today's music business is so hopelessly vapid and image-driven.

Thanks.
