Silly, subby, you save that headline for when he dies.

I'm disappointed that they won't be at Bonnaroo (going for the 3rd time this year) but I'm excited to see who will be replacing them. The lineup leaves a bit to be desired but it's still a good time, no matter who is playing.

Also I don't know much about the Hep but I always thought it wasn't treatable. Apparently it is? Does anybody know more about it?

According to Derek Trucks, Gregg is taking interfurion and that stuff really saps you.

And yes, Bag-o-Nuts, dirty needles are one way to catch Hep-C, but it can also be tattoo needles.

Hep C is treatable. It is chronic, and the effects build up over time. I agree he is probably getting Interferon, which knocks the fark outta you for a few weeks. Here's hoping to see them at the Beacon this year (15th in a row !)

/Stormy Monday
/45 minute Elizabeth Motherfarking Reed after that !!

They had to cancel their performances at their own festival named Wanee Music Festival. Was there this past weekend. Even though the Allman Brothers Band was not there, they had a huge Wanee Family Jam which was ABB without Gregg and had a bunch of people jam with them such as Bob Weir, Del McCoury, Randal Bramlett, Karl Denson, Robert Walter, JJ Grey, Kofi Burbridge, Tinsley Ellis, and the entire band of Porter-Batiste-Stoltz.

It was awesome. Looking forward to Wanee 2009.

I went 2(3?) years ago (Aquarium Rescue Unit FTW). I didn't know you could set up such a huge open air drug market anymore. I mean I TOTALLY look like a narc, and I was offered anything I could have possibly wanted.

Subby fails.

According to TFA, the band is playing at Bonnaroo with a replacement and all of the Beacon shows are going to be canceled.

What part of "The Allman Brothers Band has canceled its upcoming Bonnaroo appearance" did you get that from?

Interferon will kick your ass.
Beats your liver falling apart, though.

A few weeks? I thought it was typical to undergo treatment with interferon for 6-12 months.

So, one way to catch it is from needles, but you can also catch it from needles? Got it. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I gathered from your post that you referring just to IV drug use.

Had the same impression... not sure where the snark was coming from. His red ass, I suppose.

I'm sorry that you drew that conclusion, but would you say that a tattoo needle that infected you with Hep C was a clean needle, or a dirty needle?

bassfiddler 2008-04-15 02:51:56 PM
The most common way to contract Hep-C is from needles but there are other ways. Back in the 80's my Mom had major surgery and received a blood transfusion which contained Hep-C. She found out by donating blood 3-4 years later. At the time they called it Hepatitis Non A Non B. It wasn't until later they identified it enough times to give it "C" status. She was treated with Interfuron and so far has shown no signs of any liver damage thankfully. Lucky for her she never drank much so there wasn't any damage to begin with (I wouldn't have been so lucky). FWIW I have a physician friend who says Hep C is much more of an epidemic that HIV.

Oh yeah...I hope Gregg pulls through it OK. I was huge Allman Brothers fan in my younger days and I still think Gregg is one of the top 5 most soulful white guys I've ever heard.

Get well, Gregg.

Interferon and Ribavarin can knock it out.
Interferon knocks virii on their ass.
Ribavarin stops them from reproducing.

Using them together for 6 months to a year has been known to drop the viral load down to undetectable levels. If the viral load is still undetectable two years after treatment ends, the patient is considered cured. That is, any increase in viral load after this point is usually due to re-infection.

I hear that sharing/using dirty needles is a common way to get Hep-C

Any blood transfer will do it. In Ontario there were many people who got it through blood transfusions. Sex is not a common vector unless there are open sores. Nail clippers, razors and tooth brushes can do it, as can improperly sterilized medical equipment.
