Eminem, the undisputed authority on black culture second-rate Vanilla Ice wannabe, to sing at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday

/ice, ice baby

Yeah, comparing Eminem to Vanilla Ice is like comparing Wu Tang to Milli Vanilli.

Pocket Ninja [TotalFark] 2008-04-14 01:44:07 PM
I don't know. The song he wrote for the occasion was a little catchy...

Alright stop, corroborate and struggle
Eminemn's working magic on the muggles
praying hard for the power of the black man
rising up in the shadow of oppression
are you ready to do battle with the system?
go to prison on the strength of your conviction
I'm a gangsta in the likeness of mandela
brothers fightin' for our rights in our endeavors
to pave the way for all our nighted little brothers
be slippin' chains and runnin' north like a mother
i spray my words into the night like i'm an AK
my brothers hearken close to hear all that I might say
we spreadin' freedom like an AIDS epidemic
'cept it ain't no big shiat if you infected
So come on homies do the grind on my mandela
biatches grab on tight and hold to yo fella
we're taking this fight out to the streets, yo
gonna make them whities put out like a slapped ho
Whip it out, whip it out, whip it out yo
eminem and mandela in the house, yo
be frontin' freedom with our dicks in the house, yo.

He's blacker than our "first black president" ever was.

They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

Maybe he will sing a collection of Sinatra hits.

RemyDuron 2008-04-14 03:08:17 PM
Eminem said himself, "I can't sing," in one of his songs where he tried. He's not very good. Singing and rapping are very different skills, IMO.

Eminem is, however, a good pop rapper. WAY better than Vanilla Ice ever was.

Why would one need to be an authority on black culture to sing for Nelson Mandela?

Does Mandela like him? It's his birthday he can have em if he wants him, have em if he wants him, have em if he wants him...you would have em if it happened to you.

Oh and before it's too late, we get it. Many of you think rap is crap. Now think of something original to say.

Gunny Highway: Yea i dont understand what people are talking about. Eminem is not only a good "pop rapper" he is a great rapper.

Yeah, I threw in "pop" mainly for his subject matter. He good at rapping and writing, but focuses almost entirely on the sex, violence, drugs, and crude humor. That's not a bad thing, but "pop" has bad connotation and I should have just said good rapper.

/I'm just a pasty white nerdis

Captain Darling:

Why would one need to be an authority on black culture to sing for Nelson Mandela?

My wife belongs to an a capella vocal jazz group that sang at an MLK Day event. It was a little disconcerting. They were introduced to cheers and applause... which died as they walked onto the stage: 3 white women! OMG! White people!

Thankfully, they won the crowd over instantly. But still, that burst of horrified silence was sad.

FarkinFarker 2008-04-14 03:21:21 PM
beve: second-rate Vanilla Ice wannabe

I do not think those words mean what you think they mean, unless by "second-rate Vanilla Ice wannabe" you mean "highly successful, multiple multi-platinum record selling rapper whose career has spanned three times the length of that of Vanilla Ice". Is that what you mean?

Yea same here. Listen to the song "Nail in the Coffin" and tell me the guy isnt talented. If you can do that then you obviously dont like rap so your opinion doesnt matter much to me.

Mcstabbity 2008-04-14 03:24:07 PM
Well if there's gonna be criticism of Eminem, at least let it be effective. His biggest weakness appears to be that he can't seem to take criticism well, evidenced most clearly when Triumph the Insult Comic Dog went after him at an awards show.

That said, he is generally regarded by critics as one of the most talented rap artists (if not the most) of his generation. And the fact that he's chosen to talk about more than just big screen tv's, blunts, 40s, and biatches speaks pretty strongly to his being more than just another Vanilla Ice.

While Geri was there she famously cuddled up to the then-world leader and told him he was "only as old as the girl you feel - and I'm 25".

I know how i'm going to stay young!

Nelson Mandela's whole deal was living in an equal society, free from both white and black oppression. I think he'd be a little peeved if only black people were selected for his 90th birthday celebration.

Insomuch as he was a terrorist and was responsible for a great many deaths, yes.
