I saw them at Red Rocks last fall, they were surprisingly very good.

I enjoy old-school Beastie Boys, but I think their last album, The Mix-Up, is amazing.

Still the most consistently good rap act. I hope they got a penny for their thoughts.

for good or for awesome 2008-04-14 02:21:57 PM
All I ever see rappers do is stand there and talk into the microphone. Not the most dynamic stage act to be honest.

drnugget: I saw them at Red Rocks last fall, they were surprisingly very good.

Why surprising? They're excellent musicians.

Aw Subby, you're just jealous
It's the Beastie Boys!

Dude seriously WTF 2008-04-14 02:57:33 PM
I'm not a big fan of the Beasties, but I saw them at Virginfest and they tore that place up. Really interactive with the crowd, dynamic, and an awesome set. I don't think I would pay to see them as a solo act, but they definitely still have plenty of life left on the music festival cicuit.

Nestea Plunge: Paul's Boutique is one of the best rap albums, ever.

You know, people always ask me, "what's the phenomenon?" Yo, what's up? Yo, what's going on?

/I concur
//Best Beastie Boys album

The mome raps outgrabe.

Too old to rap? Doesn't submitter know they're going to be going strong for another 1,000 years?

img.photobucket.com

They'll still be busting rhymes at an 80% success rate. That qualifies as "ill," at least from a technical standpoint.

I would have to agree with that. EVERY single hardcore B-boys fan I know, its their #1 Me? "CHECK YOUR HEAD" is my fave

Can you believe in 1985 they were the opener for PIL, then went on to open for Madonna....

jonescollectables 2008-04-14 04:32:20 PM
Apparently, Subby is to old to rap (or spell) as well.

/Had sex with a grammar Nazi last night.
//Will do so again tonight, giggity.

I saw them at the Gwinnet Center in Georgia a couple of years ago and it was a great show.

for good or for awesome: All I ever see rappers do is stand there and talk into the microphone. Not the most dynamic stage act to be honest.

I take it you don't have that good of an idea of who the Beastie Boys are and/or never seen them perform.

Speaking as a member of the lawn-owning generation, don't you try to bundle them in with us.

seabass242: Check your head > Paul's Boutique

No, not a bad album by any measure, but it can't beat Paul's Boutique. I don't think there wil ever be another album like PB, especially with all the hoops you need to jump through nowadays with sampling and copyrights. Too expensive.

To the 5 Boroughs sucked. First BB album I've ever regretted buying.

The IMO order is.. You can reasonably put those in any order. License to Ill is not near as good as people seem to think.

1. Check your head
2. Paul's Boutique
3. Ill Communication

zabbers 2008-04-14 05:06:56 PM
greatest line of the song with the greatest riff with the greatest break ever:

"looking down the barrel of a gun, son of a gun, son of a biatch getting paid getting rich! (ba dump ba dump..reeeeee)

Wookie Milson 2008-04-14 05:08:10 PM
The first time that I ever saw the video for "Fight for Your Right...", I assumed that it was a joke or parody song, along the same lines as a Weird Al et al. Of course, now I... er... uhm... yeah!

They actually both pulled it from an old Nick Drake song, but i digress.

"Hello, Carvel?"
"Yo man Cookypuss there?"

Yeah, that sample is from "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain

I've spent countless hours finding all the samples in Paul's Boutique I didn't immediately recognize way back when.
