It's like a mortar, only when it lands, it rockets back up in the sky again instead of exploding. You use it to totally mess with your enemy.

I kinda doubt it. I mean, they're generally miles and miles tall and formed by wind processess over many square miles in area. Lotta energy in those things; unless you were talking low-level nuclear devices, I can't imagine them even making a tornado flinch.

I've done it in several threads (without being bumped to the next day) simply by saying "Boobies" ect when thread-relevant. eg: link about the FBI: "Federal Boobies Inspector?"
ie: not being a douchebag.

PS:Did I use eg/ie properly? Probably not.

Okay, here's some pics of that I shot a few years back:

farm1.static.flickr.com

farm1.static.flickr.com

farm1.static.flickr.com

The guy who drives it is pretty cool, but I think most storm chasers give him even odds of living another ten years, seeing as his goal is to drive into a weak tornado and film it with an IMAX camera. Well, used to be, anyway. He had to agree not to in order to drive around with the Wurman radar team (probably for insurance reasons), but golly gee, wouldn't it just be a CRAZY accident if he mistakenly drove into one and had the camera rolling when he did it. ;)

I think he's currently building another claptrap, now that he knows taught himself a bit more about welding and learned a few things about the claptrap's weaknesses in the field.

Well, at least the DOW (Doppler on Wheels) and the TIV have some real science behind it. These guys are just doing it for the thrill. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but hopefully they have some people that actually know the science behind it.

From looking at their prospectus, they have 1 person with a degree in meteorology... hopefully their years of experience gain some insight to the way that these storms operate so they can actually improve quality of life or scientific understanding.

/atmospheric science PhD student
//don't call me a meteorologist... those work on TV and at the Weather Service

Like maybe getting hung up on a curb or random 2x4 because he welded "armor" down to within 3" of the road surface? Nice pickup mod, but i wouldn't want to trust my life to it if there is anything other than clean pavement on the escape route...

Anybody that drives an S-10 is an idiot. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be driving something like that when my life relied on it working properly.

I owned an S-15 when I was young and stupid.

The only S-10's that didn't suck were the Cyclone and Typhoon but they really weren't the same vehicle.

FEMA actually has some pretty good classes. Just because Bush put idiots in charge of it doesn't mean they don't have good knowledge and good people.

That said, the overall feel of the site, and the fact that this dude is involved with ARES, makes me suspect they're just a bunch of whackers.
