Why did she go this way on this issue? It's retarded.

Wow. For such a pro-gun churchgoer, saying "it's not relevant" when the last time she went to church or fired a gun is pretty strange.

Wanebo [TotalFark] 2008-04-13 04:38:35 PM
"We can answer that some other time," Clinton said

How about I call you at 3am for that answer then Mrs. Clinton?

her entire campaign has been pretty strange.

"When's the last time you went to church?" and it's SUNDAY is like -- man, who the hell is running her campaign? If you're going to wave your street cred around, wouldn't you at least SCHEDULE some time to drop by a local whatever-she-is church today?

Yesdog [TotalFark] 2008-04-13 04:44:18 PM
Well, she's right. It is absolutely irrelevant whether she's shot a gun in the last 50 years. More important is her voting record.

I think she voted against the war before she was for the war. The details are a bit fuzzy tho 'cause it was late and she spent all day doding sniper fire and cleaning her rifle collection (all while praying for the children of course). But Hillary Knows!

you've got it wrong. She may have been dodging sniper fire, but she quickly hid behind an old Camaro and picked off the snipers so the rest of her entourage could land safely.

Hmmmm... I wonder how long it's been since Obama fired a gun.

Last time I fired a guh was probably 5 years ago, and I own 7 of 'em.

/just cleaned 'em last month though.

Wanebo: Not if she is going around and shooting her mouth off about it.

Again, how is her statement incorrect? What on earth does her shooting history have to do with her support (or lack of support) for gun ownership?

Check her voting record. Notice that I'm not saying where she lands on the issue. If pressed, I'd bet that she was pretty centrist and neutral, but I truly have no idea. My point is that her shooting habits are immaterial.

BTW -- her centrist Republican pandering is precisely why I wouldn't vote for her. And since McCain sold his soul to Bush and his idiotic war, looks like Obama's my choice.

Then she should simply have said, "I haven't fired a gun since I was a little girl out hunting with my dad, but I do support gun ownership rights" instead of making herself sound like she was a gun owner. Of course, that's precisely why she did it, because it leaves her more wiggle room to say "I am a gun owner" versus "I support Second Amendment rights."

Nabb1: making herself sound like she was a gun owner

When did she do that? "My dad taught me to shoot" = "I am an avid gun owner and user"?

I learned to shoot as a child too, but I certainly don't own any guns and haven't taken a shot in a long time.

While I certainly see more of Nabb1's side of "she was implying..." than you do, I also see good stuff in your viewpoint of look at her voting record and what she supported while in the White House.

Miss Brady Bill herself running around talking about how wonderful gun ownership is...I mean, it's laughable crap.

You are correct. My paraphrasing was incorrect, but she certainly waxed nostalgic about hunting and talked about guns being part of the culture, which interjected herself into the issue, clearly in response to Obama's speech. Then when she's asked specifics on her gun use, she's suddenly out of the debate. It's like the hokey-pokey.

vincentpriceisdead 2008-04-13 05:40:40 PM
I honestly have reached the end of my rope with her. Every time she opens her mouth it makes me more and more ashamed that I supported her right after Edwards dropped out. I liken it to those 2 weeks I was really into Color Me Badd- sometimes you just lose focus, yknow?

It's like someone saying how they enjoy going to baseball games, and when someone asks when the last time they went, replying "That's none of your business."

She brought up the subject. It's not as if Russert asked her out of the blue during a political debate.

I like how she gripes about Democrats losing presidential elections for being perceived as elitist and out of touch, and yet she's out there calling the probable Democratic nominee elitist and out of touch. She's an embarrassment to the Democratic party.

If it helps any, I don't think of the Clintons as 'democrats'. They're basically in the game for themselves - they just ended up in the Democrat party, that's all. And they're not even unique. There are a large number of people inside the beltway to whom party affiliation is merely a formality - it's staying in office that's important. What you say to STAY in office isn't really that important. The important part is that you stay in office.

So true. This reminds of an overheard university conversation where two guys were discussing life plans after graduation. One of them wanted to go into politics and told his friend that he had decided to be a Democrat based on the fact his father believed it was an easier route to political success because there would always be a great majority of poor people who would be more inclined vote Democrat. Pretty cynical for someone that young, but there it is. Of course that was a number of years ago, but I wonder whatever became of that kid.

What a difference 10 years makes. Public perception:

BILL: 70% approval the day of his impeachment .... now seen as a campaign liability to--

HILLARY: Intelligent, outspoken, stand-by-my-man First Lady ... now seen as a Total Media Whore.

This, after 7 years of BushCo.

Discuss.

If you are bragging about your gun use and someone asks you about it, answer the damn question. She wouldn't look quite as stupid if she had just answered it, even if it's been 50 years. If it has nothing to do with the campaign and you don't want to talk about it, then why the fark did you mention it?

Spitzer wannabe 2008-04-13 08:09:17 PM
the last time she shot a gun. What she meant to say:

Let's see, that would be November 22, 1963. I was on the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository Building. Borrowed a gun from a nice fella named Lee something - skinny guy eating a chicken leg. Went to the window and got off a nice grouping, three of four shots, I don't remember. Handed the gun back to Lee and asked him if he wanted to go to a movie.

quickdraw: She needs a better continuity editor on her scripts.

exactly, she was getting all folksy with the "my paw taught me to shoot" thing then went lawyerly with the "thats not relevant."

how about this Hill - "God its been forever, Ive been in politics so long and that involves travel all the time. And lord knows guns and planes dont mix."

You dont sound like your full of crap, you come off still folksy and sound like you missing shooting.

DamnYankees: Why did she go this way on this issue? It's retarded.

Because when Obama did something retarded she got upset that he was taking something she had up until this point held firmly in her grasp... The "Look At The Stupid Things I Can Say" segment.

Of course, nothing Hillary has said compares to what Obama's close personal racist friend has said and continues to believe, but hey.

DamnYankees: Why did she go this way on this issue? It's retarded.

I think she's just desperately pandering to whatever "microtrend" she thinks will play the best in whatever state she currently thinks matters. She still thinks she can get away with outright lying and distorting her background and then hoping no one notices. She might have been right, too, if we had to rely on the media alone to report the truth. But the Internet just destroys people who want to run a campaign like Hillary is (at least among the people most plugged into the information firehose). She's running a campaign based on obsolete strategies.

WTF? I don't think there could have been a worse answer to that question. It doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm not offended, or upset, or even worried about it, but really--why not just say "I haven't fired a gun since my dad taught me?"

You bring it up, repeatedly, and then you claim it as irrelevant? WTF?

/Is this some kind of crazy genius level of thinking I just can't figure out?
