It's also a matter of time before we see a gravy-flavored beer.

I remember having a beer in Canada once called Crest, and it was about 10%. It tasted worse than any other beer I've ever had. I think Natty Ice is considered a premium beer in comparison.

Tailwagger Wheat from the Big Dog breweries in Las Vegas owns. The rest is swill. Also starting to like Leinenkugles but 2 gallons of Guiness and a bratwurst at 2am upsets my stomach less.

In my experience, beers with more than 7 or 8% are pretty much undrinkable. You have to sip them, which in my opinion, defeats the purpose of a beer.

On a business trip to Brussels last fall I grabbed a 0.5L can of some Belgian blonde beer from a convenience mart, got halfway through it before realizing it was about 12% ABV. It was like drinking a whole bottle of wine.

I enjoy meetings in Brussels.

Legally speaking it has to be called a malt liquor.

Farkilly speaking shouldn't subby have used the img1.fark.net tag?

I love the craft beer revolution in the US, however the tendency of many American microbrewers to try and create a niche for themselves by creating inbalanced high ABU beers, or using overwhelming amounts of citrusy hops, or doing truly daft things like making chipotle beers, is a bit much.

There's room for bits of innovation in beer, but the most amount of skill comes in creating drinkable beers in well worn styles and really doing them right. There are high ABU beers that you can tackle this way, but in general for every genre of beer there is, there is some craft brewer knocking them out at +2 % more alcohol... and fancy that, they don't taste balanced anymore.

It's why I hate politics, with issues you are I have never heard of. Or music, because of the bands you or I have never heard of. Or sports, with the players you or I have never heard of. Or books, with the authors you or I have never heard of.

I love my ignorance, and think everyone should have the exact knowledge base I do!

In the end though, most 'extreme' beers in the US taste nothing like Belgians. High alcohol by volume is not a style of beer. I'd accept THAT criticism :)

What I find funny is the rush into craft brews from the big brewers. People who like craft brews will not drink the attempt at a craft brew from the makers of yellow pee fizz. And the gents who enjoy yellow pee fizz won't like an attempt at a craft beer anyways. Who do they hope to get as customers exactly?

I have to say, I don't have a favorite beer. I do, however, very much like to try new beers. I actually have a list somewhere compiled from various Fark beer threads of regional recommendations, with plans to try them all when I get the chance. Sticking to one beer and proclaiming it king is kinda cheating yourself.

The first time I tried that beer I just selected it randomly. Only after downing the bottle did I read the label and figure out WHY I actually felt tipsy.

Nothing wrong with a few before bedtime. Depends on what you have on hand to drink.

ubermensch In my experience, beers with more than 7 or 8% are pretty much undrinkable. You have to sip them, which in my opinion, defeats the purpose of a beer.

granted, beer should be enjoyed, but after two or three, taste buds go out the door.

scenario: you're drinking at a local pub. you exit said pub, but want a nightcap. now, do you go for the sherry or the franzia? the guinness or steele?

if one's going for taste, one would choose the less potency. But, if you're going for effect, the choice is obvious.
