TeddyBallGame: nobody listens to

if that's accurate, people are missing out. these guys were incredible.

ThrnPhl [TotalFark] 2008-04-13 10:29:27 AM
I listen to them.

They were great live. I saw them once in Northampton and twice in Providence (once at Lupo's and when they played a free show outside on a Thursday one summer). Good times.

Sadly, never saw them live. Saw Twinemen 3 or 4 years ago, Dana Colley was amazing.

Ouch - that's pretty cold. Mark Sandman was a really great guy.

I never met him, but he was good solo too.

Morphine is one of those rare bands that no one who knows about them really dislikes.

Listened to this cd earlier in the car. Such a great cd. I can't think of a single person I've introduced them to that hasn't liked them.

great find subby, wish I had a chance to see them live, but only really started listening when The Night came out

WolfinPHX 2008-04-13 02:25:13 PM
My all time favorite band. Only regret in Life thus far is that I didn't see them before Mark Sandman passed.

I swear to the deities that if I ever find out who used my Cure For Pain t-shirt as a beer / puke rag at a pool party I was at, I will take it out of them in skin.

I really wish I could get my hands on a poster of the woodcut from The Best of Morphine: 1992-1995 I saw it taped up at a record store in Portland once. Can't find it on the Web anywhere.

Dana is playing in a new band now called A.K.A.C.O.D. and is very morphine-esq. Features ex Bourbon Princess leader Monique Ortiz on fretless 4 string and lots of low rock and sax. FIND THEM!

Am I the only one who thinks Mark Sandman came back as John Stewart??

This. I've introduced them to a lot of people and they're a universal favorite.

Saw them only one time. Damn that was a good show. We've bought a lot of show posters/rock art over the years, but the only one that ever made it on the wall was a signed one of these:

I expect it to eventually draw questions from the kids.

I got a strange look from my old man once as a teenager when a friend asked me "Is Morphine, like, heavy?"

My Dad must have thought I was some kind of dope oracle...

We opened for them in Breckenridge, Colorado some years ago. They were very nice guys.

Yay Subby!!!!! There's never been a better junkie anthem, that Ive found anyway.

Never saw them, but saw Orchestra Morphine after Mark died....was pretty cool, but not quite the same.

yarnothuntin 2008-04-14 12:59:07 AM
Hands down, the greatest, most funnest, bestest band I've ever seen live. Never missed a show when they were in town.
Now I'm sad.

pentachris 2008-04-14 10:13:41 AM
Thanks, subby.

I got to see them once at Five Points Music Hall in Birmingham. Just as cool as seeing them live was getting turned on to 16 Horsepower, who opened up for them.

Great band, I wish I could have seen them live. I love the sax, more bands should use one.
On a side note, when I lived in an apartment "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer" was my theme song, for obvious reasons.

puckrock2000 2008-04-14 02:03:19 PM
never saw Morphine, but I did see his earlier band Treat Her Right several times back in the 80s (new window)

I've thought that for quite some time as well.

Me and my friend/ co-worker found out that he died by the crappy in- store CD we were made to listen too at the crappy record store we worked at. It was about 2 months after it happened(I was a poor college student with no computer)....it kind of put a damper on our day.
