GObama!

She's right. Why would Obama even bother to ask her to be VP in the first place given the shiat she's said regarding McCain as being better than him and equal to her on several issues?

supichoo [TotalFark] 2008-04-13 05:14:57 AM
I really really REALLY hope she finds something else to do with her life besides politics.

Matt Keating, a 31-year-old student at Lane Community College

Typical democrat, too lazy to actually work for his money.

She had two lifelong teachers.

I dunno. I'd be willing to be he is trying to turn his life around. I have to give credit to anyone who goes back to school after their 20s.

So Chelsea Clinton defeats a 31 year old community college student / Obama supporter in verbal combat. Splendid. So when is Obama going to give his concession speech?

Agreed.

FTFA Matt Keating

This story would have been a lot more interesting if Keating had been a McCain supporter and four other students asked similar questions.

How do you know he doesn't also have a full-time job? I'm 37, working, and still undergrad. I get a free course per semester via my job, but it takes a while to pile up the credits for a degree at that rate.

The fact is, it seems to make more sense, in these inflated-tuition days, to work and do minimal schooling to avoid a huge debt chasing after you once you finish.

Especially since it is becoming more and more apparent that credentials don't assure you jobs anymore, therefore, thinking of getting that well-paying job you earned your credentials for in order to pay off that now-ginormous loan is a roll of the dice where you can either win moderation or bankruptcy.

Chelsea Clinton (who has had nothing but the best education since birth) vs random community college student...at a Clinton rally?

It's like a musclehead beating up a nerd at a gym.

I think all Clintons and Bushes shouldn't be allowed in politics anymore.

Hibno 2008-04-13 10:34:09 AM
I just saw her speak at my school on Friday. I thought she did a very good job, and she seemed very genuine. She even took time to speak out against our proposed ban of gay marriage going through the state legislature right now. I thought that was cool, because she didn't have to bring it up. I'm supporting Obama, but I liked Chelsea.

ComicBookGuy 2008-04-13 10:35:21 AM
Ever see Chelsea Clinton's little essay she wrote after 9/11? It was all "ME!! ME!! ME!!" Makes you wonder what sort of parents would produce such a self-absorbed little shiat.

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2008-04-13 10:42:18 AM
Matt Keating, a 31-year-old student at Lane Community College, started his question by saying, "With all due respect . . ." and Clinton, 28, immediately interrupted with a semi-sarcastic, "Oh dear."

Y'know - if I was trying to impress my audience, acting like that 'idk my bff jill' kid would be the last act I'd pull while in public....

McStinky 2008-04-13 10:48:20 AM
I love the condescending, "Oh, here it comes" from Chelsea. She might as well have said, "Oh, here it comes LADIES" a man is talking and you know that isn't good!" All he said was "with all due respect," indicating he disagreed with her respectfully.

She's a classy wench just like her mom.

/Where's that toilet plunger! I'll flush her like the turd she is!

Lord_Baull 2008-04-13 10:52:34 AM
I guess Chelsea failed math to think we should wait until Penn and Ore before asking about a VP spot.

From the guy: "It's difficult not to be charmed by someone so well-spoken."

I see what he did there.

Bhruic 2008-04-13 11:46:06 AM
How the hell does that count as a "defeat"? The guy asks if her Mom would consider the VP job if she doesn't win the nomination. Chelsea responds by completely dodging the question. Yeah, an extremely political response (they do love dodging questions - and sniper fire), but it's certainly not a "win" on her part.

Chelsea's not dumb... she's getting her own name out there. She knows that she'll suffer no permanent harm to her own career should Hillary lose the contest, because few Democrats will blame her for supporting her own mother to the hilt.

The advantages to Hillary's campaign are obvious: in Chelsea, they've got a loyal supporter from Obama's core demographic, politically competent, telegenic, and someone whom the public does not revile. She is perhaps the one high-profile Clinton supporter with a decent public image... Chelsea is no James Carville, no Patti Solis Doyle, no Bill Clinton.

Now, let's drop the more uncomfortable truths. For all it's positives, Chelsea's campaigning is extremely shallow. Her obvious desire to avoid any controversy leads to taking on only friendly audiences, and dodging even their more-pointed questions. It's easy to sympathize with someone who doesn't want to get caught up in the fray, but this ought not lead to a free pass when they insist on getting up on the soapbox. Right now, Chelsea has that free pass, knows it, and wields the weapon with proficiency. Take it away, though, and laden down with the legacy of her mother's policy positions, she'd be toast.

"I've now had a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old look at me with terror in their eyes and say, 'What's going to happen with Social Security?' " Clinton said. "I'm like, how old are you?"

thats either a liemisspeak OR someone needs to raise less wonky kids

seriously, why would a 7 year old need to KNOW about social security let alone allow it to build "Terror" in their life

You do know that you cannot declare bankruptcy and erase student loan debt anymore, right? But, get the right non-profit or government job and you get a payback plan that's manageable and the government will forgive it after 10 years. (At least that works for law students.)

I'm 31 years old and just started college last fall. I decided to do it because I received a grant that allowed me to further my education and refine some of my skills without building up a huge debt.

I also do freelance work on the side while also being a stay at home dad. But of course, I guess some of you would say I'm lazy. haha...

Beyond that, I have been outsourced from jobs in the past not because I was lacking in skill but because the company created a policy which stated that anyone without a degree would lose their job. I could have had a degree in basket weaving and could have kept my job. But since I was self trained and had no degree, they gave my job to three Malaysian guys who didn't know how to do my job and they wanted me to train them to do it.

So... by all means, bash this guy. While you're at it, have a shot at me too. After all, that's how you make yourself feel better about yourself, right?

-------

While perhaps not the eventuality that Chelsey would prefer, she could have just answered the question without coming off as a bit snide and evasive. Although... like mother, like daughter... maybe.

Kryllith 2008-04-13 03:53:25 PM
She didn't win anything, he just asked a question and then didn't follow through for a response. Seriously, he asked her a hypothetical question and she responds with "you make a lot of assumptions..." instead of answering the quesetion. Of course he's making assumptions, that's the point of a hypothetical question. Why the "With all due respect..."? Chelsea wasn't the president, nor is she a senator. From the way she interrupted with the "Oh dear", she's just a stuck up brat. The guy should have called her on her arrogance and snubbed her for avoiding the question.
