(Chicago Sun-Times) Sad The Breeders' new CD is uninspired, lazy, and clearly "a welcome distraction from what by all accounts has become a boring life in Dayton"   (blogs.suntimes.com) divider line 27

Huh. I had no idea that either The Breeders or 4AD were still around. I'm a little happier about the latter one.

I think Robert Pollard still puts out at least a dozen albums a year, even without Guided by Voices.

it has pretty good reviews, in general.

Kelley is looking hot in that pic, Brodan.

Kim Deal stole my pen after a concert. She borrowed it to sign stuff for people too stupid to bring a pen, and then walked off with it. Without signing anything for me. Ah well, i got the rest of the band when i saw them at the Batschkapp in Frankfurt long...LONG ago.

I think it's not bad...better than the last one...

I'm living a non-boring life in Dayton, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies...

I read an interview with Kim about living at home with her mom and being 46 and single. She seemed a little bitter about it, but summed it up as "I was 30 and thought I'd have plenty of time and then here I am". She also joked she looked like a dude so that doesn't help. All I can say is the last time I saw her I was watching that Last Splash video and I thought she was hot. Guess I was wrong.

uninspired, lazy, and clearly

As opposed to every other Breeders album?

One day Gen X is going to wake up and realize that "alt-rock" was pretty terrible even by the standards of disco and hair metal from the 70s and 80s.

Ummm... No. No, no and no. Negative hyperbole is still hyperbole, isn't it? Or is there another word for that? Other than "horse-hockey" that is...

It was more of the same dressed down. Bland, uninspired, uninteresting and uncreative. At least hair metal didn't pretend to be something it wasn't.

Reckon we weren't listening to the same thing then.

last time I saw her she was touring with the pixies reunion tour and she looked like a soccer mom.

I remember watching them do coke in a friend's bedroom when I was a young teen. I only ever liked Canonball.

Yeah. New album kinda sucks. Last Splash was the only good one anyway.

THIS. I haven't heard enough of The Breeders to state a truly informed opinion, but the thing I remember about alt-rock was that for every They Might Be Giants or every Jane's Addiction, there were a dozen other wimpy, faceless, "quirky" college bands that everyone insisted were so revolutionary. It seems like we look back at the image-driven marketing and insincere sleaze of hair metal and say, "What the hell were we thinking?" but look back at the navel-gazing and self-imposed emotional restraint of alt-rock and say, "OUR GENERATION HAD THE BEST MUSIC EVER.... WHAT DO YOU MEAN, 'ROSE-COLORED GLASSES'? GET OFF MY LAWN!"

/listens to alternative rock
//and a bit of hair metal
///both are far from perfect but enjoyable in small doses

Last Splash was great, Pod was ok and Mountain Battles is terrible and about to be removed from my Ipod.

Give a listen to The Amps. Like The Breeders, but noisier.
