Nice find. The post-punk hair and clothes are great. Check out the pre-Flock-of-Seagulls-'Do 'do on Adam.

The video really hits its stride about two minutes into 11 O' Clock Tick Tock. Love me some early U2.

Always loved "I Will Follow." The Edge's guitar sound was quite a breath of fresh air at the time.

hard to believe a bunch of 20 year olds could come up with something as awesome as I Will Follow

I've never been a very big U2 fan but out of all their albums "Boy" is still my favorite. It just has a different kind of energy that their later work seems to lack.

It's not hate. It's elitism.

I love early U2. I lost them at Joshua Tree. They just got so, dare I say...boring? Yes, that's it. Boring. This song has fire.

Boy and October were their finest efforts methinks.

Here is my problem with U2 (uh-oh--"elitist alert")

My problem isn't actually with U2 but more so with many of their fans. I am sick of the way too many people who claim U2 is the "greatest band EVER!" These people who claim this are also really into Nickelback,John Mayer and Coldplay.

I suppose U2 is pretty awesome when placed side by side with mediocre mainstream crap.

You will NEVER hear someone who grew up listening to Nick Drake,Nick Cave,Velvet Underground,Brian Eno,King Crimson,Zappa etc....say U2 is "best ever"

Kinda like the Metallica fans who say "Metallica is the HEAVIEST and the DARKEST band ever!" which is easy to say if you have never heard Godflesh,Melvins,Sleep or High on Fire.

Boy, October, War, done.

That whistle test had some serious guest sometimes.

Not to derail, but here's Jesus & mary chain around the same time, playing as primitively as possible:

love that drummer banging the simplest drum-kit you ever seen (new window)

The I Will Follow guitar riff is stolen from the song Public Image.

Three reasons to love U2 post-Joshua Tree:
1. Achtung Baby
2. Zooropa
3. Pop

Three reasons to hate U2 post-Joshua Tree
1. Shake, Rattle & Hum
2. All That You Can't Leave Behind
3. How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

Since they're collaborating with Eno, it will be interesting how the new album sounds.....

Hate How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb???? I admit I didn't love it at first...some songs...meh. The song Miracle Drug made up for it

Here's why U2 is considered "the greatest band ever" by its fans:

Most of the true U2 fans are 30-45. They discovered U2 during Boy and October, fell in love with them during Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, and stuck with them through Zooropa and Pop.

After 30 years, U2 remains relevant, still produces hit songs and best-selling albums, and puts on one of the greatest live shows ever.

Few bands can claim both the longevity and relevancy that U2 can.

I'm a major, dire-hard U2 fan, but I'd never claim this. I think they have more consistently quality work than any other band, but music isn't quantifiable like that. Personally, yes, they're my favorite band so I would probably CONSIDER them the greatest band ever, but never claim it. Big distinction. And, no. No, I don't like Nickelback, John Mayer, OR ColdPlay.

On the subject of albums, I appreciate Boy, love October, War when I need to get fired up for something, portions of The Unforgettable Fire are absolutely transcendant, I savor every chord and word of The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby is just all around good stuff, and Zooropa... words escape me. Unfortunately, that's where they lost me. Some songs were good after Zooropa, but on the whole, just not listenable.
