That first pair of photos are crap. He doesn't look particularly like him. The second pair, quite a bit better.

where Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt fought to determine the shape of post-war Europe.

More like where Stalin took what he wanted and the Western world laid down to give it to him.

Just into his 20s, Dadaev was a great deal younger than Stalin, but make-up and the strain of war meant that he could pass as a 60-year-old.

"We had all experienced so much suffering that I looked much older than I was," he said.

Ah, the joys of Soviet life...

hold on a second.... looking at the photo, the body double has a very obvious cleft chin, and Stalin doesn't...and he thinks the ears are the problem?

It is surprising that Stalin issued no order that all his doubles be killed after he died. The only advantage to not having your doubles killed is to your top people. Keep your death a secret, by using doubles, long enough for you to make it safely far away with your loot before the new leaders decide to do away with you.

If Obama or Hillary win the next election, Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the crowd may face some legal problems, but they will not be dragged out somewhere and shot. Stalin's USSR and other dictatorships like that usually have power struggles after the dictator dies, or is killed. And losers do not usually end up appearing on talk shows to plug their new books. They end up dead.

Of course, with so many doubles, you really never know if an assignation attempt was successful...

I see you live in the United States. Try having your country invaded and over 20 million people killed, then we'll see how old you look.

Anyway, it's an interesting article.

Im willing to bet Stalin killed more of his own people than the germans did. GULAG and all that is well-known, but especially the "no retreating" bit - the political commissars shot anyone who took even one step back.
onwards, straight into the grinder! one wave after another.

Stalin was not the only one to use doubles.

Gen. Eisenhower used doubles in WWII. It was not merely for his protection but part of an effort to misinform the enemy. Spies would report that Ike was some place he was not and thus make it appear that some place was more important to Allied plans then they really were. Or so the idea went. I have no idea if it really worked.

Doubles don't need to fool people who can interact with them. Merely fooling people when the double is driven by on a jeep will do the job.
