She was exhausted on March 17th.
And she was INSANELY tired on February 29th in Waco.
And there are no words for how tired she was on Dec. 30th in Iowa.

Plus she says MILLIONS of words per day. Doubtless some of the same patterns will repeat themselves, regardless of their actual merit.

So the real story is that she abandoned the rest if the passengers, flight crew and her own child for the safety of the heavily armored portion of the plane?

She left Sinbad, Crowe and Chelsea behind to sit on their flak jackets and pray?

That alone wouldn't be much, you're right. However, it was one part of a multi-part sentence.

Exactly.

My theory is that Bill is having a great time doing whatever it is that he does and really doesn't want the constant supervision that being the First Dude would entail.

Private citizen Bill Clinton rock and rolls all night and parties every day? Meh.

White House occupant Bill Clinton tries it? Yeah, we know how well that went over the last time.

Reporters joked on trail about Sinbad story

---
Over the past day, journalists present on the trip have provided details that show Clinton's account wasn't accurate. But why did this take so long for the press to refute?

For months, Clinton has been retelling this Bosnia story, an anecdote journalists often found dubious when speaking privately.

When I was riding on the Clinton press bus through Iowa one day in late December, the Sinbad story had become a running joke.

That night, when a campaign staffer asked the traveling press which movie they wanted to watch on the late-night ride back to the Des Moines Marriott, one reporter called out, "First Kid." (In that movie from 1996 - ironically, the same year as the Bosnia trip - Sinbad plays a former-boxer-turned-Secret-Service-agent in charge of protecting the president's kid).

Ya know, I was wondering why Bill would really want to get Hillary elected before I knew he would need to walk away from millions of dollars of low-effort income to get that done.

I can't imagine he doesn't weigh "go be first lady... or go pose for 'I'd hit that' pictures" in his mind every time he stands to speak for her.

It's a tough call for us all, Bill, but I'm sure you'll do the right thing.

One Time? Late at Night? Immediately apologized?

How many lies can Clinton cram into a single sentence?

Look. He can't divorce her without looking like a mind-blowing douche. But, if she loses this and blames him, she may well drop him. Isn't that what you'd want in his position? Yeah, she'd take a lot of money. But, it's not like he'd be hurting.

Honest question... people don't just come up with sniper stories out of the blue - was she ever sniped at? In other words, did her story actually happen, but on a different trip/date/country/etc.?

Anyone know?

Magorn 2008-04-11 08:51:11 AM
actually it was twice, and the second time she dragged out Clinton's Secretary of the Army who miraculously "mis-remembered" exactly the same thing. And even more disturbingly, the scene she described actually DID happen, only to another woman, in this case Sen. Olympia Snowe (new window), who flew in with a food relief flight six months earlier while the fighting was still going on.

Besides do you really want to make the "She was tired so she Farked Up" argument when your campaign's major theme is how he'd be the perfect person to answer the ringing Bat-phone at 3am?

Spindle 2008-04-11 08:55:24 AM
unlikely: Plus she says MILLIONS of words per day. Doubtless some of the same patterns will repeat themselves, regardless of their actual merit.

I can't believe that nobody has latched onto this yet. If you were to speak even a million words a day, that means you'd have to speak 11.57 words PER SECOND for the full 24 hours a day. I think the Micro Machine Guy(get off my lawn!) couldn't even handle that.

Theaetetus 2008-04-11 08:57:29 AM

Makes sense as the inspiration... Anyone know if Hilary's ever been in a sniper zone?

As I linked above it actually happened, in Bosnia, but to Sen Olympia Snowe six months before her trip, not to Hillary. I find that the most disturbing and underreported aspect of this story. For a campauign and candidate who were so quick to call J'accuse against Obama for "plagairism"; it seems VERY odd to say the least that Hillary seems to have appropriated someone else's life experience as her own.

as Jake tapper says...

(1) Her most glaringly wrong telling of the tale, on March 17, 2008, was in the morning.
(2) She actually told versions of the story several times. (And none was at night.)
(3) In an e-mail to journalist Eric Jansson, former acting Bosnian president Ejup Ganic said "we didn't expect snipers," though, "we still believed that some positions on the hills were occupied by radical Serbs, so I was worried about the overall safety."
(4) Not according to the pilot Colonel William "Goose" Changose (Ret.), who said, "nobody under my watch has ever directed anyone to sit on their flak jackets. ... We do not direct people to sit on their flak jackets."
(5) It wasn't immediate at all -- it was 11 days later, first in an editorial board meeting with the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philadelphia Daily News, then later in a press availability.
(6) She never apologized.
(7) It was 1996, not 1995.
(8) He qualified it with "I think," but then-first lady Pat Nixon went to a combat zone in Saigon, Vietnam, in July 1969.

Someone with more creativity than me needs to remake Murry Head's immortal classic into "One Night In Tuzla" just for Hillary, she can use it as her Campaign theme

"Tuzla...Bosnian setting ..."

Frogdog13 2008-04-11 09:22:44 AM
Granted, MSNBC is talking about this gaffe, but what is so infuriating is that they have not mentioned the "she's old and tired" portion. That, to me, is much more shocking than his lie about her lie--I mean, we didn't call him Slick Willie for nothing back in the 90s--that sort of thing is expected from him. But for her husband, who allegedly knows her best, to comment that she's too tired to remember things, that's a pretty serious comment on her "day 1" status.

Are the other MSMs covering it?
