Wow, submitter, way to misread an article. They're not MAKING fans buy the single in bits and pieces--hell, you can go to Amazon and buy the track in its entirety for $.89. But if you're so inclined to buy the individual components of the track for remixing purposes, you can do that, too.

And, if this happens to push their single higher on the charts, SFW? Who's it going to displace, Natasha Bedingfield? Nickelback? Is that some sort of tragedy?

awfulperson: They're not MAKING fans buy the single

No, they are. I opted to pay zero pounds sterling for "In Rainbows" and Johnny Greenwood showed up at my house last night, unannounced, pulled out a theramin and said "I'm going to play this all night, droning at top volume unless you buy all the requisite parts of the single"...

/farking effective strategy, too.

They're just being savvy.

Just wanted to add, as a long time Tool fan, I've never been a big fan of Radiohead.

This new CD one of the best CD's I've ever listened to. I've listened to it a ton (104miletrip5daysaweek), it is extremely enduring and ages like a fine wine/cigar.

Waiting all day for another music article instead of the Jane's Addiction biatch-fest, and here it is.... another farking RADIOHEAD thread. gag.

I doubt their intention was to cheat their way onto the chart. I don't expect they really care.

MetalGator 2008-04-10 06:33:55 PM
Not a surprise, anyone remember that stupid ploy where they wanted fans to buy multiple copies of their album then return them the day after the charts came out? Morans

Gotta give them credit for creativity.

1) Buy the 5 pieces of Nude
2) Make a better song
3) Brag about how much better than you are than Radiohead on Fark
4) Profit?

If you want your "fans" to remix your shiat, offer it for free. Farking assholes.

/going to see them in August
//no respect for Thom
///more excited about almost anyone else on stage

Why are half of the music threads about Radiohead or the Stones/Keef?

/loves both Radiohead and the Stones

FTFA: iTunes shows the five most popular downloads, and as you might have guessed it looks like a goddamn nudist colony.

I lol'd in my pants.

I'm sure a particular Farker or three will come in and tell us how much he hates Radiohead, and how much they suck compared to coked-out whores who cannot sing.

Yeah, because there's no middle ground. If you don't like Radiohead, you listen to Britney Spears.

Anyway, Radiohead has become to Fark's musical section as anything Hilary does is to the political section...

Also, I'm really good at erasing my post and starting over, apparently... Sigh...

Be fun if bands let people download the raw files they use to make albums and let people mix them themselves. Granted, out the window goes controlling masters, but who, except for the record companies, cares?

I hate Radiohead with a passion, but that's pretty damned funny.

And let me say before I get flamed, I respect them and think it's good that someone with actual talent is on the charts. I just really, really, really don't like them.

deadsanta 2008-04-11 01:52:13 PM
I enjoyed the author's immediate backpedal/retraction at the end of the article where he then claims to find of the ploy, contrary to everything preceding:

"I am NOT implying any kind of conspiracy on the part of Apple, Radiohead, or anyone else. I just think it's kind of a tricky way to get a song charting, and not necessarily even a dishonest one."

From "cheating" to "not necessarily...dishonest". Nice flipflop, I assume the legal letterhead that floated above the definition of "libel" was what got his attention.

/I lol'd, internet tough guy stories that end like make me squirm with delight.
//still dont own the album.

The thing is, if you buy the single, the stems are free. And it was all put together for a contest anyway.

This blogger is a moron who can't collect all his facts before jumping to conclusions.

Monkey number 12 2008-04-11 02:34:02 PM
Sorry, you still have to buy the stems separately...

I fall prey to my own condemnations.

I listened to the stems... Cool idea... but if I were to really want to remix it I would want it everything isolated... how they have it now there is an acoustic and electric on the guitar stem and a billion sounds voices and effects on the EFX stem.

And the Vocal stem isn't clean either, I think there is a slight effect on his voice.

/don't know why I am telling you all this.
//and don't you dare tell me how to do a farking fark post.

Derwood 2008-04-11 09:27:11 PM
I'm pretty sure that Radiohead could give a flying fark how high any song of theirs "charts"

5) Thom Yorke comes on Fark and starts complaining about your versions and how he could do better.
