Didn't Jane's break up before the 1990s ever began? I sure seem to remember hearing a lot of them in years with an 8.

That band is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. They should just stay together since they suck apart.

*sings* "Jane says... have you seen my wig around?... I can't tour without it..."

as odd as it may seem, Eric Avery seems to be the glue that held it all together. Everything they've released without him has been Meh.

FeedTheCollapse 2008-04-10 11:49:44 AM
speaking of Eric, he's apparently released a solo album recently.

Speaking of inexplicable 90's nostalgia, I heard somewhere that Blind Melon (wtf?) is touring. Zombie Shannon Hoon must be quite the draw.

Not really, as Avery has not been on board for any of the previous reunions. Nor this one as of yet

"90's nostalgia"?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Nothing shocking about that news. It seems to be a ritual de lo habitual.

this - I love Flea, but listen to the baseline throughout all of Three Days - makes that song

Eric was a vastly underrated part of this band

That band is the soundtrack to some of the worst times of my life.

Today, merely hearing a bar of that repetetive whining glamour/junkie bullshiate makes my schlong break into a rash of retro-active seeping Old Joe.

HA. No shiat.

Shouldn't Perry Ferrel kinda decide what he wants to be? D? Promoter? Lead singer in a band with a whiney voice? I swear, everytime I heard him sing, he reminded me of StarScream from The Transformers...

I will say that it's pretty funny how we've or less leaped over the 80s comeback and gone straight to early-90s revival...

LEaped over it? Nope. We just did it already. In the 90's, the 80's were huge.

Janes addiction's great but that farker just can't sing live to save his life

I have somewhere the entire woodstock94 concert and his performance there was the most unsefferable singing I had to sit thru... Hearing him ramble on and on about ufos was funny tho.

fark Jane's. They need to make another Panic Channel album. I loved this CD; I don't get why it didn't sell.

Confabulat: Didn't Jane's break up before the 1990s ever began? I sure seem to remember hearing a lot of them in years with an 8.

Yes. I have no idea why people think of them as a '90s band. All of their big songs were recorded and released in the '80s.

Also, I may be the only one who thinks this, but I like Porno for Pyros better. Tahitian Moon is definitely in the running for definitive '90s song.

Other candidates:

Burden in my Hand
Santeria
Wrong Number

Or if you think the '90s sucked donkey balls, then it's probably something by Creed or Candlebox.

Stephen Perkins - great drummer, great guy, very nice.

Dave Navarro - great guitarist, and really f'ing weird.

Uh, no. Navarro is awful. He's only "good" in the same sense that Neifi Perez is a better baseball player than you or me. But compared to actual guitarists of actual bands, he's gotta be in the lowest 20 percent.

ghoulie_mask 2008-04-10 01:57:05 PM
How much do you think Perry Farrell sits around thinking "If I had just OD'd in 1991, it would be me instead Kurt Cobain".

Seriously, Perry and Jane's were the vanguard of the alt-rock universe and the changing of the guard, then Ferrell kinda dicked around, got full of himself, Nevermind came out and that mopey bastard from Seattle offs himself .... martyr for a generation and Ferrell is resurrecting his dead old corpses (Jane's, Lollapalooza) over and over again as practically a footnote.

JerkyMeat 2008-04-10 01:57:22 PM
They were a late 80's band, only idiots call them a 90's band

awfulperson [TotalFark] 2008-04-10 02:20:32 PM
Please, no.

The last time they reunited, they released that ersatz Jane's album, "Strays." I don't think I can take another pitiful release like that from them.

I'm so sick of reunions, I'm so sick of hearing about possible reunions. Most of these bands that people have leaned on to reunite or who keep making the motions to do so were far better way back when they were young and hungry, rather than now when all they're looking to do is renovate their sagging careers/mansions.

So, good on you, Eric Avery, John Paul Jones, and yes, you too, Morrissey. Keep resisting the peer pressure and the urge to cash in on nostalgia.

Haha..."cash in now, honey."

I was listening to Jane's back in the early years of high school, circa 1988. It still kind of freaks me out that anyone even KNOWS who Dave Navarro is. Then again, I find it extremely weird when I go into sports bars and they are playing Jane's Addiction.

Oh yeah, and Dave Narravo mother's was murdered back in the 80's. I think it was actually featured on "Unsolved Mysteries" with that ultra-creepy dude whose name fails me.

/saw Jane's for the first time at the first Lollapalooza
//I was quite impressed
///the Butthole Surfers were better though

I think I've seen every episode of "Unsolved Mysteries" (yep, for a while there I had no life) and that didn't seem familiar. Wikipedia says that it was actually on "America's Most Wanted", so the ultra-creepy dude was John Walsh.

/John Walsh is ultra-creepy

i think a lot of people refer to them as a 90s band because ritual de lo habitual came out in 1990, so in the early 90s you would hear them a lot on the radio/mtv.

calling an 80's band a 90's band annoys me too, but yeah, what kingmountain said. they were still getting a fair amount of airplay up until 95 or 96. at least on the station i listened to. still doesn't make it right, though.

MetalGator 2008-04-10 03:07:23 PM
They'll tour again, who reunites for one-off? This is just to get the hype going again. Last time they did Lolla as the reunion tour it was perceived as a failure even though it had a solid lineup (Jane's, Audioslave, Incubus, QOTSA). Maybe another Relapse/Jubillee type tour is in store? I could see a fall arena package tour being quite successful.

Hmm, you and I were having the Chili Peppers exchange yesterday, no?

I agree with you about Tahitian Moon, and I do like the other three songs but they wouldn't be in my top candidates. Maybe in the top 25.

Anyone else get the sense that Lollapalooza is going to follow the suck/awesome scheme that the Trek movies did? Years 1 and 3 were teh hottness. Years 2 and 4 (current) are mediocre at best, annoying at worst. Maybe it's just me.

Theonceovertwice 2008-04-10 03:42:41 PM
I once had the pleasure of witnessing Eric's response in person to the question, "Ever gonna do something with Jane's Addiction again?" and his response was something to the effect that he'd rather die first.

I don't get the bashing on Navarro's playing, I think the two big singles are piss poor examples of his ability. I remember being surprised he could actually play when I listened to Nothing's Shocking and Ritual.

I doubt anyone's gonna be nostalgic for the 00's next decade, this decade has been horrible for music and well everything in general. 90's music was really good though, from hip-hop to rock and everything in between.
