(Chicago Tribune) Sad Hillary has a new whine to go with her cheese, claiming Obama's soaring popularity with Pennsylvania voters was a result of his lying TV ads. And anyway, that was supposed to be HER state, dammit   (chicagotribune.com) divider line 151

Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign called on Obama to drop a TV ad in which he declares himself free of oil company money. While it's illegal to accept money from corporations themselves, Obama has accepted about $200,000 from oil company executives and employees, the Clinton campaign said.

If I remember correctly the average Obama campaign donation is >$100 so:

whips out scratch pad

~200,000/~100 = ~ 2,000 people in the oil industry, who are not registered lobbyist, have contributed to Senator Obama's campaign. Doctor Clinton's anguish sounds a little misplace to me.

His radio version of this ad is on constantly, if he has the cash to keep that sort of media bombardment going right up until the primary he may just pull it off. I'm kind of hoping Obama manages to make a campaign stop here to see if our local catholic bishop has another hissy-fit Link (new window)

What? Seriously, what?

A few weeks ago he was down by 20 points. If he even comes close to Clinton, it's a massive win for him - she needs to win very big in Penn just to stay in the freaking game. Every state she doesn't win by double digits makes the delegate gap between them harder to close.

Republicans fired back.

"Obama is trying to distract voters from his own tax-and-spend economic policies by misrepresenting McCain's domestic agenda," said Amber Wilkerson, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee. That plan includes "a balanced approach of lower taxes, transparency and accountability to help homeowners across America," she said.

heh republicans transparent and accountable? since when?
Maybe McCain should release his taxes and medical records already?

It's all about expectations, and it looks like they're serious about hanging in until the convention no matter what. If Obama jumps ahead in the polls they'll lower the expectations even more.

I wonder what Mr. Wolfson would say if Obama does pull off a win in Pennsylvania.

My guess is that whiplash from spinning around so hard might break his neck.

We have just under two week to the Pennsylvania election and with this kind of spending gap, Obama just might pull it off.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

Hillary is just lowering expectations. She needs to win Pa big.
Their saying it's a "must win" for Obama is just stupid talk.

those are not lobbyists nor are they representing their employer. they are simply individuals who make personal contributions who happen to work for an oil/gas related company.

Hobodeluxe: those are not lobbyists nor are they representing their employer. they are simply individuals who make personal contributions who happen to work for an oil/gas related company.

Exactly. When this was getting hyped, there were articles about how big chunks of these donations were ~$100-ish contributions from people who answered the phones or worked in HR or whatever.

A little different from some tycoon giving $200K in soft money, with a little *wink wink* to the candidate. Just because you work for BP or Exxon or whatever, doesn't mean you can't choose to donate (within the usual limits) as a private citizen.

I wonder if he is familiar with the old robot saying "Does not compute." Seriously, if (I would still be willing to say when) Obama loses in PA, it's not a significant loss. He isn't/wasn't expected to win, she was. If she wins by less than 10% that is something of a coup on Obama's part.

By now, I'm pretty sure there's enough material for an enterprising reporter to do a 30 minute TV segment doing nothing but listing each of Hillary's totally obvious lies.

I doubt the same could be said of ANY of the other candidates, regardless of party affiliation.

The fact that Hillary is still a contender at this point just makes Americans look stupid to the rest of us.

With closed primaries, it's not as easy. At least for those of us with standards. I won't change my party affiliation (Independant) for questionable short term gain.

She isn't a contender, that is the problem. Any sane, rational person would have accepted defeat by now. She does not have the maturity, intelligence, integrity, pride or self respect to accept defeat.

She's as crazy as a loon.

I think it's funny that the GOP mouthpiece is calling Obama a tax-and-spend democrat; because the current GOP administration has been very conservative in their spending. They just go to the bank that is China.

There is nothing, however, remotely funny about the HillBill campaign anymore. Pathetic.
