Zing!

Seriously though, is that just a rerelease of the first & second albums? It was all downhill from there.

Before we start arguing Korn's place in metal...let's get this out of the way: Korn is not now, nor ever was a metal band.

You may continue.

It was downhill from the second right before they chose the name. Not content to stink up radio, these assbags also ruined a South Park episode.

I disagree. Korn had the balls to experiment with their style. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

Well, you have to remember something. Due to all the joys of complex contracts, it's usually cheaper for a record company to make a best of of a group with very few albums then it is to re-print the albums themselves. The short of it is; they have to pay less people less money this way.

Myself? I wouldn't mind a best of Korn, for five dollars used with shipping. I've never liked them enough to spend that much on the individual albums, but for a best of? Maybe.

"Got the Life" is an AWESOME song, I think. It's got a lot of energy, it's twisted, and it rocks and is punked out, but some how sounds kind of funky at the same time. "Falling Away From Me" and "Make Me Bad" are good, too. But there is a lot of junk on them albums.

I think a greatest hits is a good idea for Korn - they have way to many filler songs, I think. Does seem kind of early, though. I mean, they haven't been out THAT long, I think, and, yeah, their newer stuff isn't very good.

Korn is okay. I think I like more of their songs than I dislike.

I don't want to flame but, if they said that Rage Against the Machine had a best of album (yeah I said album), I would be all over them cause they really really really suck.

\did I meantion that I don't care for RATM?

Without KoRn, strippers would be without a lot of music to dance to!!!

And what if KoRn and Hole toured together? would it be the "KoRnHole Tour"?

/Their remixes are cool, in all fairness

I think the label really farked their career. Untouchables is probably my 2nd favorite Korn album, the first being self-titled. When Untouchables failed to meet sales expectations they rushed back to the studio and put out that turd Take A Look in the Mirror. They have been a shiatty band since. That deal they signed for the money upfront in exchange for a cut of touring was very smart though. It's an interesting live show with the backing band, but all the good songs are pre-Mirror.

Gotta Love the TON sense of humor. And I must say even the worst of TON is much better than anything Korn did
I remember seeing Korn open for Megadeth once. Korn was really bad and got booed off the stage. Not the best match up of bands for a tour.

say what? Granted, I haven't heard a full album of theirs since Follow the Leader... but that was because every track was the goddamn same. Not to mention they lost one of their guitarists and it didn;t affect their sound at all. Did Davis eventually run out of family members to cry about on the last track?

First album was pretty good, but I'm sure in retrospect, and because everything since was awful, it probably hasn't held up.

Do any of their hits include some gear grinding bass lines?

Honestly, that undermines your credibility. The singles tend to be generic, but the albums have more variety than you think. Still, because we're talking about a specific niche of a specific 'genre' (nu-metal), there wasn't a LOT of room to play around.

The band was pretty unique in the bagpipes and funk influences it incorporated. I own (and enjoy) Untouchables; the first couple of albums were pretty good too, but not really keeper-worthy. I may pick up the best-of if it has some solid cuts on it.

Disclaimer: I'm not a particularly big nu-metal fan. But I love KoRn's bass work.

I wonder if they have an Unplugged & Seated album in the works.

The Fark Knight 2008-04-08 10:24:10 PM
The Korn Unplugged album was possibly the worst thing I ever heard. I'm betting they won't have anything off that steaming pile.

Every Korn song is my least favorite Korn song.

iammess 2008-04-09 12:42:00 AM
I think about Korn about the same as I think about Motley Crue. I thought they had a few good songs, but that's about it.

As for the south park episode, I liked it for it's graphic, detailed explanation of necrophilia. That, and Nibbler. But then again, I like every south park ever made.

InferiousX [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-04-09 12:45:01 AM
I've got a slightly negative tilt when it comes to Korn. When I was a senior in high school, a core group of friends that I had would listen to nothing but Korn, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit and Coalchamber. But I'd say 75% of that was Korn.

I've also seen a couple of live performances and they both seemed like they were phoned in. They just never had that live "oomph" to me.

That being said, I do like probably about half a dozen of their songs not counting their cover of Cameo. I don't care what anyone says, that cover has groove.

Because I like the Cure very much, I did buy the "make me bad/in between days" track they played with the cure. That was pretty cool. But I bought it for the Cure contribution.

Korn had one of the best rhythm sections ever. Marvellous interplay between a brilliant drummer and a great bass player.

I mean, they got Terry freakin' Bozzio to fill in when their original drummer was gone, and it wasn't an improvement.

Ravens357 2008-04-09 11:24:28 AM
Wow, lots of hatred for Korn. Their first couple of albums, as pointed out, were good but how many bands are able to keep it up one after another? Only the elite are able to make consistently good music over a long time; I don't know anyone who knows anything about music who truly expected Korn to be putting out memorable stuff after their third, or if they got really lucky, fourth album. It's hard to get a hit single, really hard to get a top selling album, to do it more than once gets you big respect in my book. I liked the old stuff and give them props for hanging in as long as they did.

Bozzio, dude who played with Frank Zappa, Missing Persons, and does some pretty cool 'symphonic' drumming stuff. He's up there with the best of them. He's even worked a bit in some of Mike Patton's side projects.

And, yeah, that's pretty impressive that he would a) want to play with Korn and b) that they didn't improve, as the man said

Yeah, the bass and drums is good stuff in the Korn...

Enomai 2008-04-09 01:23:31 PM
I know who Bozzio is, man. I just wouldn't call them one of the best rhythm sections since they have copped to just mimicing FNM.

ah. my bad. sorry there. yeah, it's overkill for Bozzio to be playing with Korn, I think. he could do a lot more interesting stuff with them. he's basically a glorified studio gun, methinks...
