Kid's album?
Don't put Geddy's face anywhere on the packaging.
It'll give them nightmares.

why a combo of 2 canadian suck?

why not a combo of 2 canadian win? My vote would go for SKINNY PUPPY with LEONARD COHEN singing.

CAn even be a kids album too!

As cliché as it sounds, don't judge the Barenaked Ladies off of their singles. "One Week" and "Another Postcard" don't resemble the rest of their work at all (and "Another Postcard" is probably the most disposable song they've ever done), but those are the only songs from the band that most people I know have heard.

Almost everything they did after the Rock Spectacle live album is pretty bad (though I always thought "For You" is one of the best songs in their catalog), so for me the Barenaked Ladies are the music they made before they really blew up in the States.

Oh, dont get me wrong, bein Canadian I know all about them. I will conceive that they are pretty on-the-spot musically, I saw them perform live on tv so many times...

BUt stuff like "if i had a million dollars" make me want to put a long 12 gauge inside my mouth.... why you have to be so happy for chrissake??? what are you, our canadian version of The Dead Milkmen?

Basically all of "Gordon" is full of WIN. What a fantastic debut album...
"maybe you should drive" is pretty good too...

I nominate "Hemispheres" as Rush's best overall 70's album [*ducks*]
What... ? I think that the title track is actually better than 2112, and the other songs are pretty good as well... [tho "Circumstances" took a while to grow on me... damn he had a very high vocal range --- "screechy" --- on that one...].

A kids album? Whats it going to be about? They Might Be Giants have already covered the major subjects and a lot of other educational stuff throughout their career. It will be very difficult for them to pull this off without ripping off TMBG in some way, not that thats anything new.

BaronVonAsshat 2008-04-08 01:23:21 AM
I don't mind BNL, but after this they have officially been set in my mind as a paler, more bacony, watered-down, "for the masses" TMBG. Seriously, songs like "789" and "Crazy ABCs"? Did they think people wouldn't notice that TMBG have done this TWICE??? For shame.

He doesn't sing like that anymore, you hoser. And he has a normal speaking voice. Not as deep and monotone as Neil's, but normal.

Geddy--sounds normal if Canadian
Neil--deep, not a lot of inflection
Alex--lisps enough to set off my gaydar even though I know he's not

That, "For You" is definitely one of their best. I also like most of what they did up until Rock Spectacle, but I find that the stuff they released after that is hit or miss - there are a fair number of songs I think are amazing but the albums don't do it for me. Although their live shows are always a blast - I got to see them play a small university town here in about 2000/01, there were maybe a thousand people at this little outdoor concert on a field and we were right at the front. It was fantastic. :D

/there are tickets to Leonard Cohen on my fridge right now! ^___^ just over a month to go...

Uh, so? You think the market for mainstream bands making children albums began and ended with TMBG?

Honestly, don't see the problem.

yes... i had to think about where i knew that phrase "ten bucks is ten bucks" for a while [it was on the tip of my brain], but then it hit me.... w/ the help of the other comments in this thread :-P

I've actually only watched maybe three or 5 SCTV episodes... all when i was a kid / teenager... I didn't find them that funny back then, [i preferred SNL --- i know, i was naive...] but most of it was pretty dry satire... and a lot of it was clever too, now that i think about it....
gotta watch some again...

sure... we can play beer hunter... but I get to go first...lolz

/i think only like 1/3 of that album is actually funny, tho...
like half of that old phrase said "when it was good, it was really good" or something like that
