Now it's "son of a gun." You know, have to keep that Christian conservative side fed.

woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah doggy.

Did he really change the lyrics? That was my favorite part because my parents said I could sing "son of a biatch" since it was about the Devil.

stupid jerk.

TFA That is not the case with the Guitar Hero version which comes complete with a horned, guitar-playing devil who battles the player and very often wins.

I can see his point. Should have made the devil the first level boss so everyone could be him. Make his the "Glass Joe" of the video game. Then he would have been happy.

Great song

Just be happy the developers didn't portray the chicken in a bedpan pickin' out dough.

- Along with "Love is a four-way stop sign" one of the most egregious of the misheard lyrics of my youth.

There are Biblical injunctions against it - one in the OT (actually it's there a few times in the OT) and at least two in the NT.

Specifically, there is a rule against "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit," which some construe to include cussing about spiritual matters, and a saying by Jesus of Nazareth involving namecalling (if you call someone a name, you're in danger of hellfire).

So I think that's what it has to do with Christianity.

There's a clean and dirty version of that song. So you are both equally right or wrong.

I much prefer Uneasy Rider, but I can't imagine that would make for an interesting Guitar Hero song.

Okay. I can see where hell and damn and (exclamation) Jesus Christ, etc. fit the bill. Not sure how/if any of the words that fark filters do.

Though depending on how you interpret it, the verses may not have a damn thing to do with saying "shiat" when you smash your finger.

Many churchgoers think the rules apply to all swear words for some reason.

I think the question here is why would the Devil pick something like fiddling? Why not something he's good at like...raping or picking on guys named Job?

nekom [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:21:44 PM
Unfortunately I lost the publishing rights on the song many years ago in a settlement with a former partner and the license to Guitar Hero was granted by the company who now owns the publishing.

Well then, sounds like T.S. for you.

I would have expected the devil to throw down some hillbilly Paganini licks in that song but his playing's really not anything to write home about.

I think it's stupid that they changed the fiddle to a guitar in a song about a fiddle. I heard a clip of the song from GH3 and it sounded like crap with the fiddle as a guitar and some wannabe 'metal' singer over it.

I much rather prefer the second cut of Uneasy Rider, where he and his "buddy" go to a gay bar and beat everyone up. It's funny that in the 1970s Charlie was one of the "Bad Boys" of country music, because that was what was cool to do. Now, he's an over religious douchebag, because that's what the "cool kids" in Nashville are doing.

But I guess he's laughing all the way to the bank, no-one has ever gone broke underestimating and pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Yeah, "son of a gun" was originally just for radio, and then Charlie Daniels became hardcore about JC.

Charlie Daniel's blogging on the web,
puttin' down Guitar Hero.
Wants me to quit my playin'
'cause he's worried about my soul.
He said, "Jesus walked on the water."
And I know that it's true.
But sometimes I think that Daniels man
would like to do a little walking too.
But I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
you just leave this long haired country boy alone.

I can't. The devil is a cheating shiathead that never misses a single goddamn note unless you actively screw with his playing. If I didn't hate the devil before this game then I certainly do now. Why do we need to show children that the devil never wins? Does that mean that Hell is empty?

That's true, but I would argue that, save Waylon, "The Outlaws" were pretty tame. To truly include the outlaws, you'd have to include Johnny Paycheck, Kristofferson, Billy Joe Shaver, and several others.

Not sure why it is called "hero", but I am much better at Guitar Hero than real guitar, much like I am a much better Major League Baseball player in MLB 2K8, and I might add I am a pretty damn good college QB too when you put an XBOX 360 controller in my hand.

Are people who point out it is not a real guitar retarded?

Do people who play GH or Rock Band think they are cooler because of it? I know I don't.

You should know that when religious fundamentalism is in play that all logic (even sound, rational arguments such as these) fly right out the window. What better way to arm the Christian Soldiers of tomorrow than to teach them, "You better practice every day, the Devil's out to get you, and he's hard to beat!"

No. Thanks to the Fairness in Hell Act of 2275, the solid gold fiddle he has to give you weighs hundreds of pounds and sounds crummy. It's mostly for show.

/you're better off losing and getting the smaller, silver fiddle.

Passive Aggressive Larry [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 06:53:34 PM
Yeah the devil often wins, if you suck at Guitar Hero.

Seriously, is his complaint really that he thinks the Devil winning somehow promotes satanism or something? The point of the game is to beat the devil, not let him win, and you have an infinite number of tries at it. If anything, the game is saying that beating the devil is good, and as long as you keep trying you'll eventually overcome him.

A friend of mine and his dad opened a large concert venue in Irving, Texas a couple of years ago and one of the bands that played there was Charlie Daniels Band.

Long L O N G story short......they are basically a bunch of major a__holes. The band and their crew were major trouble makers.
They caused all kinds of bad incidents before, during and after their performance.

He got to meet a great many major current Country,Blues and Rock artists who played there but Charlie Daniels was the ONLY artists who were unpleasant.

Yeah, and when I play Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, I'm a way better special ops agent than I am in real life. And when I play [insert fantasy rpg game name here], I'm a better wizard than I am in real life, too.

We don't think we're heroes, we don't think we can play the guitar, anymore than I think I could rapel down a line and breach into a closed window or fireball a group of orcs.

Dur.

That's surprising. I thought that was his meal ticket all this time. I guess kissing bible thumper ass pays better.
