With the poor U.S. economy, she can convert those 5 Junos to about 7.6 Grammys.

what a cultural wasteland, not that the grammys are any better, but there wasnt one halfway decent artist in that whole article.

special tribute to '70s rock power trio Triumph, which was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame,

I always liked those guy's records and the three times I saw them live were all great.

Yeah, it's the kind of stuff critics hate, but that's just another reason to like it.

Why is it that the more "hip" an artist is, the more frightfully boring their music is?

I know two Feist songs and I like both of them. That said, Canadian culture is boring. I'm pretty sure you'll win an award at the Junos as long as you put out an album and you're Canadian.

Finger 11 is one of the worst bands I've ever seen live, I saw em a few years back at West Edmonton Mall, at Reds, and I went to the Arcade after 4 songs because they were bad.

Couldn't even keep the attention of a stoned teenager.

They were a great band, but lost me after whatever that record was called with the Jane Siberry track. You're in trouble when Jane wrote the best song on your record. Still dig all the old Martin songs, though.

I always thought award shows were mostly dumb [ie. "Two against Nature" wins over "kid A"?!?!?!]
but i'm glad she won awards... her "the Reminder" disc is actually quite good...

I'm glad Arcade Fire won something [best alternative album, and best artwork categories], but I wished that Destroyer was nominated...

/"Destroyer's Rubies" is a wicked album... i have the LP which adds a fourth side... a side long minimalistic synth piece broken into three parts]

I recently went back to the Streethawk: A Seduction album. it's all kinds of awesome.

yeah, that was me (just got home). We didn't win (we now have 2 Juno losing albums!) but we did play at the gala on Saturday and the Ironwood on Friday, eat a lot of steak, and drink a lot of beer, so it's not all bad.

Hmmm... interesting... "Rubies" is the only Destroyer disc I have... i was thinking about picking up his new one, tho.... "Trouble in Dreams" [ i heard "foam hands" on the radio... i liked it... the mellotron made it stand out even more...]
but your comment makes me think about going backwards....to his earlier stuff...

/btw, his lyrics are awesome.. full of wordplay, very literate stuff... but with the occasional story to tell, too...
[i like to think of him as our new Dylan.... maybe a little bit of Bowie in there too...]

Thanks. I'm risking an attention-whore label flameout here, but the band is called Autorickshaw (new window)

Blue Rodeo is good. When they first hit the scene many moons ago, Rolling Stone said (paraphrase): "The best new American band of the year is Canadian."

Feist has a couple of good songs but, good grief, she is over-hyped. She is the "It" girl in the music scene these days.

Very, VERY good. And a fantastic bunch of human beings, too. Shame they split up. They are one of my favourite bands of all time. I have a picture that Martin drew for me hanging on my cubicle wall.

bigbearchaseme: A Rheos pic AND a Streethawk recommendation? I'm getting all googly eyed.
