Yeah... about 10 years ago!

Underground culture = losers

Cagey B [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:02:03 PM
I'm not one to argue what's "underground" or "indie", but Lollapalooza? Underground? Really?

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:02:23 PM
Bonnaroo's lineup is better this year, both for bands playing AND reaction by hippies when Metallica was announced. Pure hilarity, that.

BobtheFascist 2008-04-07 05:18:36 PM
Become?

As a hippie, I say bring on the metal. But not Metallica. They've sucked for a decade now. If you're going to do the metal at Bonnaroo, do it right. Slayer or Judas Priest or Heaven and Hell or Motorhead or someone with some integrity and talent.

Lumber Jack Off 2008-04-07 05:24:26 PM
Lollapalooza has always been pretty damn mainstream.

Fraggler [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:25:57 PM
Oh come on. There's some crap on there but there's also plenty of genuinely good music.

brap [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:31:25 PM
I guess at some point in my life I became incredibly square because the one concert event that has me salivating this spring is the Tucson International Mariachi Festival.

Fark party? (crickets)

Judas Priest or Heaven and Hell or Motorhead or someone with some integrity and talent.

all three of those bands are going on tour together this summer with the 'someone with some integrity and talent' being the mighty TestAmenT.

/tour of the farking decade right there.

HappyHarryHardOn [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:42:39 PM
Come on, let's all admit that a lollapalooza tour has as much meaning now as say, woodstock 2008.
Whatever it meant in the 90s (bands like butthole surfers getting mainstream exposure for example) is gone and gone....

That said, not a bad lineup...
I'd like to see gnarls barkley in broad daylight

/i heard a good chunk of the new Barkley and its very very good I think

Mr_Fabulous 2008-04-07 05:45:59 PM
I'm kinda liking that lineup. I'll be there.

Radiohead, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, The Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, Okkervil River, Love & Rockets, The Black Keys, Broken Social Scene, Blues Traveler, Bloc Party, Gogol Bordello, Cat Power, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Girl Talk, The National, John Butler Trio, Battles, MGMT, Lupe Fiasco, Rogue Wave, The Weakerthans, The Whigs...

What am I not supposed to like about this?

mekkab [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-04-07 05:47:48 PM
The Kills... Nice!

TommyBahama 2008-04-07 05:48:13 PM
first off, thats like 50 bands; are they going to play one song each?

also i thought barkley was doing NBA commentary when did he start singing

ready_set_moe 2008-04-07 05:49:11 PM
Paradigms shift.

You left out Bang Camaro. If you get into it, they're pretty intense live. If nothing else, they're damn fun.

iron_city_ap 2008-04-07 06:05:05 PM
There are a few in there I'd like to check out. Then between bands I like, go booze at my buddy's place about a block away. Stumble back for the next band, etc....

JerkyMeat 2008-04-07 06:16:06 PM
Went to the first one, "take the day off work" tour. NIN killed it.

I'm up for a Fark party here in Tucson.

Doesn't "Underground Culture" with music tend to mean music no one likes but people are too hip to admit it to each other?

FTFY, Subby.

TommyBahama: first off, thats like 50 bands; are they going to play one song each?

Well, it's 3 days and about 9 stages, so I think there's plenty of time for everyone.

/scored $60 tickets

Don't care for Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo, got my tickets for Terrastock7...

Saturday night, bring forth the Grails.

/knows a thing or two about festivals, was at Stonehenge Festival in '84, Hawkwind twice in one night (sunset & sunrise).

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 09:43:06 PM
I would, however, want to exchange some shiatty act at Bonnaroo for Lollapalooza having Explosions in the Sky.

spanish flea 2008-04-07 09:44:11 PM
I'm not going there with those ticket prices, even though it's two blocks away from home. With $200 ticket price you can go see four or five real concerts of famous acts where the band plays a full set (+ opening acts).

xdedd 2008-04-07 10:24:36 PM
Just saw The Black Keys last Wed.

They farking ROCK!!!

theurge14 2008-04-07 10:29:04 PM
Because nothing says 'underground culture' than a gigantic concert with thousands of people attending.

Blues Traveler because John Popper was supposed to have died of a fat attack in 1999.

And Stephen Malkmus only because he's a dick, and his 'band' wouldn't even be noticed by anyone if it didn't have his name in front of it.

I interviewed him once. He wasn't a dick at all. The second statement you made isn't really true either.

I've been to the past 3 Lollas in Chicago. I had a blast at all of them. Might not make it this year, but if you can blow some money and make the trip, it's a good time.

lollapalooza is sweet! I showed my artwork at last year's... did anyone check out the art area?

The best band to ever perform at Lollapalooza ever.

Passive Aggressive Larry [TotalFark] 2008-04-07 11:22:12 PM
Wait.. I recognize like 5 of those bands. So you're telling me thats not a bunch of underground shiat?

That line-up needs more Pearl Jam.

That's a GREAT lineup, and you cannot tell me Battles and Grizzly Bear are mainstream, or 3/4ths of those people.

♬ Out on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins
Nature kids, they don't have no function
I don't understand what they mean
And I could really give a fark.
The Stone Temple Pilots,
They're elegant bachelors
They're foxy to me are they foxy to you?
I will agree there isn't absolutely nothing
Nothing more than me ♬

Wow how punk rock is that. :P Yeah if I got to interview Yoko Ono I would think she was cool too.

Yeah I'm jealous. :(
