I think playing health insurance much more certain than the Lotto--with Blue Cross, you know for sure you're going to be screwed.

What's going on in the world as a gigantic struggle between Good and Evil.

2008 is your chance to take a stance in this war.

Vote against the health insurance lobbies.

olddinosaur 2008-04-06 09:09:56 PM
They are correct, that is how the industry got started.

In old England, it was declasse' for rich men to work, but they could gamble.

People found out you could pay bets against a ship sinking, and that's how the indostry got started.

I bet you $29 that I die this month, against $10,000 that I don't---and I sure hope I lose!

I can't disagree with them there.

I don't understand all the picking on Muslims. Christianity comes from Judaism which has the same Abrahamic roots as Islam. The only real difference between Christians and Muslims is that Christians are lazy and only select and handful of laws from their blood-drenched Old Testament then only half-heartedly execute them. If Christians were really true to their scriptures there would be a lot more witch burning, hand chopping, eye-gouging, and stoning.

Someday when Muslims are domesticated they will be indistinguishable from Christians.

TFA: It also said that in such a situation, the patient should the spend the left-over amount of the claim he receives from the company on some form service to Allah.

It's cute that they think an insurance company would pay out so much money on a particular claim that there would be money left over.

Insurance is a farking scam.

Try having conditions that aren't cost-effective to treat and you're screwed. I have severe TMJ disorder that triggers headaches and migraines while I gradually wear my lower teeth down to tiny nubs. Estimates are around $15,000 to treat, which isn't *that* bad, really.

Health insurance says it's a dental issue. Dental insurance says it's a medical issue. Glad I work my ass off to get coverage for nothing.

fark you, Kaiser Permanente and Hawaii Dental. fark you in your greedy little asses.

Unsung_Hero 2008-04-06 09:12:40 PM
So, poor muslims who obey this declaration will die off for the cause while the rich/powerful will remain unaffected.

Seems perfectly in line with radical Islam everywhere... and pretty much every other power structure in the world.

TFA: The Academy, however said, if a person had insured himself under some legal constraints, then it was matter that could be thought over.

It also said that in such a situation, the patient should the spend the left-over amount of the claim he receives from the company on some form service to Allah.

What kind of health insurance pays for your treatment and gives you extra cash?

Squidgilum 2008-04-06 09:17:35 PM
Actually, being a Muslim is gambling. How does one resolve that conflict? It's also a lot like being drunk.

"Is a puzzlement! Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!"

Bohemian 2008-04-06 09:17:47 PM
Hmm sounds reasonable to me. Health insurance is gambling so health care should be provided at affordable costs or free. A religious group said something reasonable, color me amazed.

sinanju 2008-04-06 09:18:38 PM
In its purest form, insurance is a risk pool, not a casino. Then again, religious fundamentalists (not just Islam) believe things rather than know them, so the opinion they express is not surprising.

SharpieFiend 2008-04-06 09:19:05 PM
This is lunacy? Instead of insurance being provided by a for-profit company, they advocate heath care to be provided by the community to be available to everyone equally. In fact, this is the same sort of health care that's available to every first world citizen with the exception of those living in the United States. I don't think I have to connect the dots here.

Nope. Just me baby... Just me. ...

BearToy: I don't understand all the picking on Muslims.

On here it's mostly radical Protestant groups supporting a neoconservative political agenda that involves United States military domination of the Middle East. If the headline said "Today's bit of lunacy brought you by an Indian religious group, who have declared Health Insurance to be illegal because it is tantamount to gambling", you'd have a lot more jokes and "lol, that's silly" comments, and a lot fewer Liter alts spamming bullshiat.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 09:21:11 PM
All insurance is a form of gambling. As are warranties, bonds and stocks.

So is being religious. Or deciding not to be.

DrForrester 2008-04-06 09:21:20 PM
Shouldn't this ruling stand for all kinds of insurance? Car, home...?

BearToy: The only real difference between Christians and Muslims is that Christians are lazy and only select and handful of laws from their blood-drenched Old Testament then only half-heartedly execute them.

The Old Testament is mostly for Jews. Mosaic law doesn't really apply to Christians, they believe Jesus established a new convenant with them in the New Testament.

/not a Christian or Jew and still now this.

SharpieFiend 2008-04-06 09:24:18 PM
DrForrester: Shouldn't this ruling stand for all kinds of insurance? Car, home...?

No, because car insurance protects the other person in case of an accident. Home insurance protects your investment as you probably don't have the resources to repair or rebuild after a catastrophe.

After all there's nothing that forces you to sign those contracts by requiring that you have insurance to attend college/drive a car/buy a house/etc etc etc.

Except that a lot of things health insurance companies do to screw people are not part of a "mutually agreed upon contract". They change the rules all the time unilaterally.

A contract wherein one party has little to no ability to negotiate is hardly a mutual agreement.

Most Arab countries have relatively well developed health systems (compared to their otherwise overall low level of development). Those with petrodollars have public health systems on-par with the West.

I used to work for a company that provided "NurseCall" local area paging systems for hospitals. The Middle East was their biggest client region by far. You'd be surprised how strong the "health is a community concern" attitude is in the Arab world. None of this political bickering about how it should be provided either.

In light of that, I can see where this ruling would come from. Though I still agree that the bit about "insurance is gambling" is a bit of a stretch.

So... you are comparing dictatorial decrees from whackjob religious nuts to socialism as practiced in Europe?

Accurate enough. Can you color inside the lines now?

Yeah, except Jesus specifically said that he was not abolishing Mosaic law. I won't argue that there are many professing Christians out there that are unaware of that, but most of those people don't read the Bible anyway.
