To the best of my knowledge I have never drank Absolut Vodka and I'm sure I've never bought a bottle of it. But after finding out that michellemalkin.com was proposing a boycott I'll be out shopping for some Absolut tomorrow.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 04:48:12 PM
Absolut is good, but there are better vodkas out there for the price.

ufark2 [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 04:59:04 PM
So the Wiki (new window) lies?

Say it (new window) isn't so

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 05:03:14 PM
Assholes. If I drank Vodak, I wouldn't drink theirs. Idiots.

Many people down there are illiterate and being fed this BS from every direction, this ad is particularly insulting.

curmudge 2008-04-06 05:15:27 PM
GaryPDX I'm not sure I understand, are you saying that the map is not historically accurate? Or are you saying that there are no Mexicans and Mexican-American who would not like to see that map be accurate again?

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 05:27:00 PM
Seeing that Malkin and/or her readers were somehow involved in the manufactured outrage, I would have hoped their response would be "Sorry you're such a bunch of f*cking stupid pussies." Alas.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 05:27:58 PM
curmudge: GaryPDX I'm not sure I understand, are you saying that the map is not historically accurate? Or are you saying that there are no Mexicans and Mexican-American who would not like to see that map be accurate again?

I'm saying the latino masses on both sides of the border are generally descendants of the indigenous peoples of the region. They want "Aztlan" back from the white Europeans whole stole it from them. The "Blue eyes" decendants of the Spaniards rule Mexico with a cast iron fascist hand and these classes are persecuted in Mexico.

That's why we have all these refugees.

This isn't a joke, it's real (new window)

Many of these folks are poor and illiterate and this recognition from an International corporation is particularly insulting.

curmudge 2008-04-06 05:40:06 PM
GaryPDX not sure that you answered my question but perhaps we are just talking past each other. However, I do support giving Texas back to Mexico. As for the rest of the land the US got from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Mexico can kiss my shiny metal ass.

If you take a gander at that wiki page, it's pretty much Mexican mythology surrounding the Aztecs and their origin. The dangerous part is the section about the "Chicano Movement" that started in the 60-70's in Sandiego and LA. Today many many in the masses north of Mexico City and up into CA, AZ, NV and NM are buying into it ethnically.

It's just a prominent thing going on. There's a LOT of racism in Mexico between the descendants of the Spaniards and the indiginous peoples.

Yea..we're talking past each other...lol.

It's a stupid train of thought but it's happening and growing.

I live in Southeast New Mexico, and I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about.

/And Albertson's vodak, at $11.99 per 1.75l, FTW.

//Snobby cousin left a partial bottle of Stoli at my house, I drank it, refilled it to the same level with Albertson's, and next time he visited I poured him some, and he never noticed the difference.

curmudge 2008-04-06 06:07:11 PM
GaryPDX Now I understand: the whole Aztlan movement is based on a very flawed understanding of history and like most of these kinds of movements is being pushed by some very cynical asshats. Luckily it has not gotten as violent as the so called independence movements in Spain and other parts of the world.

I've always enjoyed Absolut--but knowing that curmudge is going to be drinking it, there's no way I'd be caught near it now.

so hating mexis in the us is somehow better than hating mexis in mexico?

Uncle Karl 2008-04-06 11:24:06 PM
Can we give them the southeast too?

Oh_Enough_Already 2008-04-06 11:25:09 PM
Funniest joke I read regarding that ad:

"Mexicans would hate it if that's how things really were . . . they'd have to travel that much further to get to The United States."

Logweasel 2008-04-06 11:25:14 PM
kiyote: I've always enjoyed Absolut

Really? I have rarely enjoyed Absolut. Still better than Smirnoff, though.

Mr. Gunn 2008-04-06 11:26:22 PM
The ad only ran in Mexico, and hate-monger Michelle Malkin used it to stir up "terk our jerbs!" hatred.

Headline fails, and Subby does too.

Enemabag Jones 2008-04-06 11:26:48 PM
Q-Why do vodka and liquor ads always show average looking men with hot models?

A-Because they are selling fantasy

/Get over it. How many 'wetback' jokes were swimming around hollywood movies in the 80's. Can't we all just get along?

Accepts Apology

Zuel 2008-04-06 11:27:07 PM
Nice non-apology apology. "If by chance you are a person that was offended by an ad that wasn't meant for you ever to see, because we would never show you what we really think of you, then we are apologizing for you having to see the ad." - Love Absolut Vodak

Stupid farkers. I think I'll use the last of mine to clean greasy car parts.

That non-apology was not good enough.

Invade Mexico just to mess with Absolut.

I quit drinking hard liquor several years ago. The opportunity to piss off Michelle Malkin is almost enough to make me start back up.

Yeah, it's kinda stupid for an international company like that to expect it's ads to only reach it's targeted audience, especially these days with such speedy communication between distant lands. Methinks their marketing department should be penalized for shortsightedness.

We always considered Absolut to be the Zima of vodaks.

Never would have believed there were enough gay Mexicans to justify a marketing campaign.

I'll stick with my Stolichnaya.

xyx111 2008-04-06 11:33:28 PM
I like Absolut Vodka, but after finding out that curmuge is out shopping for some, I will never buy it again. Plenty of excellent vodkas out there. I must defend the honor of the American-Mexicans that live across the border.

1. vodak
180 up, 73 down

Further proof that even the most idiotic brainfart can become a meme.

Bingo. We could give them all the land back overnight and it wouldn't improve Mexico one whit. It would degenerate into the same shiathole Mexico already is.

Where did I say I was offended? Understanding a mindset now equals to having it?

Your deductive abilities are of questionable worth.

To be fair, most Europeans who visit here are a bit shocked by the number of dusky, spanish-speaking inhabitants.

Given that all the people who lived in the Southwest at the time all this happened are dead, let's move on already.

I'd like to see how well an "Absolut Germany" map would go over in Austria and the Czech Republic.
