When the fatties revolt, "public health experts" will be eaten first.

I don't know why every douchebag with half a voice in this country has to try and get things they don't like outlawed for other people.

How about this douchebag just stops eating butter, and shuts the f*ck up? Hmmm?

Tax only those who fail the fingerprick test.

I think the spectacle would be improved if he ate a shiatload of margarine.

An old Scandinavian rule of thumb:
one can never eat too much butter.

Sounds like an excellent rule to me. Look how hot young Scandinavian women are.

margarine is made of the cheapest fats producers can find. at least butter we know has to come from cow milk.

it's fine for you. america is full of 80 year olds clogging up the nation's golf courses who grew up eating butter, lard, whole milk and red meat.

When I started on my weight loss epic, my doc said the best thing one of the best things I could do would be to switch from margarine to butter. Since it's natural, he said my body would burn it faster. No idea of the scientific validity, but it sounds good.

Mercutio879: my doc said the best thing one of the best things I could do would be to switch from margarine to butter

My nutritionist informed me that margarine carries a significant cancer risk, and it would probably be a good idea to avoid it since I already had cancer once before I was 30.

I'll take butter please. I don't want more cancer.

I need confirmation on this before I change my diet... any doctors in the house?

You know, all last winter I was roasting vegetables with olive oil and I liked it, but it didn't really excite me. Last night I roasted the same sorts of vegetables using butter. OMFG it was sooo good.

Maybe butter is addictive.

Butter helps us digest fiber and margarine is gray before food coloring is added. I'll stick to butter thanks.

Once I got ahead, moneywise, I stopped buying margarine. Now I'm knocking out high fructose corn syrup.

I have no problem with sin taxes in general, but it seems like I remember they were saying that real butter isn't as bad for you as they once thought. Margarine on the other hand is a heart attack in a tub.

Perducci 2008-04-06 12:16:39 PM
Even if butter is as bad as cigarettes, so what?

The main problem with smoking isn't that it's bad for the smoker. The problem with smoking is that it's bad for everybody around the smoker.

The day that fatty deposits somehow jump out of a butter-eater and start causing health problems in innocent people in the vicinity, then you can say that it's as bad as cigarettes.

If we're intent on banning everything "bad" in the world, let's at least start with the things that hurt other people, beyond just their users.

Butter is great! As a hard drinking, hard smoking, butter eating man with twelve minutes to live, I fully resent this legislation that might keep my life expectancy above fifty.

Impudent Domain 2008-04-06 12:19:09 PM
Goddamn stupid twats. Butter is MUCH better for you than margarines which have hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Besides which, eating oils will not make you gain weight any faster than eating starches. In fact you might actually be able to lose weight faster with a low carb, high fat ratio diet.

Jackasses, they always seem to know how to live your life better than you do.

I really think the time has come to form some mobs and start lynching people who think they should tell us how to live our lives.

thedailyphosdex 2008-04-06 12:20:34 PM
And let's not forget that Wisconsin actually BANNED sale of coloured oleomargerine until 1966 "to protect the dairy interests," or so the official line went.

The which collapsed after a state legislator in the Joe McCarthy vein, by name Gordon Rosenlip--himself a butter fanatic to the extent that he saw margerine as some class of a "Communistic plot***to weaken and undermine the nation"--failed to distinguish between butter and margerine in a well-publicised taste test.

ImJustaTroll 2008-04-06 12:21:25 PM
Nutritionists and Doctors can't tell what your body will burn faster, everyone's different' I've been 130 all my life and I eat crap that would make you cringe, but I figure my cronic anxiety and fast paced lifestyle will keep me thin till I'm 50, then kill me with a heart attack.

That's the thing I try to buy margarine that is non-hydrogenated and low in trans and saturated fat... is butter still better?

downtownkid: Congratulations anti-smoking Nazis, you started us down this road.

I agree to some extent, but it would have happened anyway, at least with smoking there was the alternative right of people not to be subjected to a bad smell, although they took it too far.

The main problem is the mindset (which comes mostly from the political left) which says that an educated elite knows better how to run our lives than we do. They have been itching to micromanage our lives since the mid nineteen sixties.

really does not matter, its certainly no worse, and might taste better, at any rate it's our choice, not anyone else's.

THIS. We just have to allow smoking back in the workplace, shopping malls, public transport, etc. like it was until the late 80s just to keep all these idiots busy.
Crusaders never stop once they've got what they initially lobbied for. It just emboldens the power-hungry to keep going and find new causes.

/going to try that butter cake recipe...

Betty Botter bought some butter
"But," she said, "The butter's bitter.
"If I put it in my batter
It will make the batter bitter."
So she bought some better butter,
And she put it in the batter,
But the better butter only made the better batter bitter. Er.

Any chef would never let margarine anywhere near his food. Besides tasting like ass, It's full of hydrogenated oils.

Me and my girlfriend have a little saying from making mac and cheese.... "add quarter cup butter, or margarine if you want to taste like @ss"

Here in wissconsin It is illegal for a server in a restaurant to bring you margarine if you didn't explicitly ask for it. Only butter is to be served. Best law ever.
