So now it's fixed. Nothing to see here.

\that makes me suspect that the web person over at MaineToday.com may be a TF'er.

"This is only, like, my ninth day. It's really hard sometimes," said Anna Laprise, a fourth-grader who expected it would take more than one complaint-free stretch to break the habit.

Erm, FAIL?

FTFA: There are plenty of things in an elementary school student's life that can be irksome: a sister playing her flute too loudly; an overcooked burger; an untimely request to walk the dog; or a shoelace that's become untied.

When would anyone ever complain about an untied shoelace? "I hate how bad I am at tying shoes! Why do you have to be so stupid, self?"

Boy, This purple thing on my wrist is a pain.

Radio Boy 2008-04-06 10:49:25 AM
Bill Geist did a piece on CBS Sunday Morning last week about the church that started these wristbands. I think only 3 or 4 people in their congregation managed to go 21 days so far.

buzzvert [TotalFark] 2008-04-06 10:49:48 AM
An overcooked burger?

Kids get to specify the doneness of their burgers now? I was lucky if school cafeteria burgers had actual meat in them, let alone the quality of the cooking method.

/spoiled. brats.

"The students wear purple wristbands as a reminder of their goal to refrain from complaining - as well as whining and gossiping - for that period of time."

In a business setting this wouldn't last one day. I think the gossiping would be the first to be broken, the women at my job gossip about the smallest things.

No. No, you don't. It was displaying fine until it redirected me to your stupid error page. It got me to fix scriptblocker so that it doesn't do that anymore, so I guess it helped me a little...

That's right. Teach those kids to bottle up their emotions early.

Z_since_1516 2008-04-06 10:52:46 AM
Yes, lets teach the little ones that its bad to vocalize the problems they see.

Just squeeze that nugget of dissent into a tiny ball and push it deep down into your belly until it builds up and explodes at an appropriate time and place.

It's pretty sad when your life sucks so badly that you get off by insulting 4th graders. And I'm pretty sure that some of these kids could have abusive or divorcing parents, not know if they're going to have dinner that night because they're so poor, or get in a car accident.

Oh good. Not only to we break their spirit and drive off any hint of individuality and creativity, now we get to make a game out of them being absolutely complacent to inane requests made by their masters.

Lets condition them to never express their discontent. Perhaps we should start at a young age? It'll make them far easier to control when they grow to be nice, obedient, tax-paying members of the workforce.

Nonsense! These are Maine children, not children of some third-world plague pit like New Jersey.

Ah, Maine, where maple syrup grows on trees, McDonalds has lobstah on the menu and the streets, if not paved with gold, at least have a liberal coating if cow manure.

Feel free to insult the privileged little Mainelings.

What the fark is so bad about complaining? Sure, "I have too many awesome video games, I don't have time to play all the ones I like" deserves a paddlin' but "You want us all to play some pointless mindgame you saw on farking OPRAH?" should be encouraged and rewarded.

I think a bunch of people are mistaking 'complaints' with 'statements of fact'.

The girl saying going even 9 days isnt easy was stating a fact.

Anyway, just came to say that I think this should be done in a lot more places. Teach kids to fix their own problems before they air them.

I'd really like to get this started at my school. But I know that I won't even make it 10 minutes without complaining about something or other.

Man: I want to complain.

Complainer: You want to complain! Look at these shoes. I've only had them three weeks and the heels are worn right through.

Man: No, I want to complain about...

Complainer: If you complain nothing happens, you might as well not bother.

Man: Oh!

Complainer: Oh my back hurts, it's not a very fine day and I'm sick and tired of this office.

Before the "Pro-child" fans chime in I have to ask..

Have you ever seen a child really hit with a text book?

I mean a child being taught with loving force.

Just wondering...

EVERY ONE of my complaints is a "statement of fact". When I say I'm sick & tired of hearing you whiners, I am simply stating the FACT the I am sick & tired of hearing you whiners.

If we never complained we would all be British
