How can people possibly be this stupid.

I have to start running scams like this. If people are that dumb they deserve the occasional financial spanking.

I have to give credit to the scammers for this one. It's pleasantly different.

Suckers....I'll be laughing all the way to the bank once I receive my winnings from the lottery I won in Nigeria. And that's not to mention the millions I'm getting from a long lost relative who had a diamond mine that I didn't know about.

I know of a suspension bridge in New York City that can be purchased rather inexpensively. If you would send a cheque made out to CASH to Staja Number 84F.

There will be a $350 processing fee to file that report.

what's really sad is that if they wanted a dog, they could have taken that money to the local shelter and adopted one, saving it from euthenasia.

/both my doggies are from the shelter, best dogs in the world

I can see the use of the dumbass tag but it does make me wonder why the sad tag couldn't have been used because in this day and age, even if you don't have a computer there have been countless news stories reporting of variations of this 419 scam email.
there was another story here a month or so back and the article showed the newspaper ad with the guys email in it. I emailed it to see if it was still valid and sure enough within an hour I had an email with a picture of an english bulldog that needed to be adopted by a loving home.
/ctrlaltdelete you owe me a new keyboard.

Jesus Harold Christ on a rubber crutch. My girlfriend and i answered an add on ocala4sale.com via email to buy an english bulldog pup for 350$. Which is pretty cheap, since they go from 120-3500 range.

This woman responsed to us saying that she had sold the last puppy but she had sold two to a missionary in Africa, and for a minimal fee, he would ship them to us, as he could not take care of him there.

We of course said no, but crazy like a month later readinf about it on fark.

Our mastiff wants a bulldog buddy, so we are just gonna have to suck it up on the cost.

Oh, these Nigerian scams are so yesterday. The one Americans are falling for, hook line and sinker, are the Canadian lottery scams. I know a bank manager who sees about two customers a week fall for this scam. Usually the conversation goes something like this.

Manager: So you want to withdraw your life savings and wire it to Canada?

Customer: Yes

Manager: May I ask if you've been approached about a lottery?

Customer: (long pause and stare) I may have, why?

Manager: This is a common scam we see. A person is told they've won the Canadian (Or Irish) lottery but they must pay a number of taxes and fees before they'll send the money. Of course there is no money they just want the fee's you'll pay.

Customer: You don't understand, I received an official letter...

Manager: Sir, did you enter the Canadian lottery?

Customer: Well, no but the letter says I was selected at random.

Manager: Sir, it's a scam. There is no money.

Customer: But, I'll lose the money if I don't pay the tax within 48 hours.

Manager: Sir, there is no money. They're going to steal the money you send them for the fee's.

Customer: Look this is my money you can't keep me from withdrawing it.

Manager: Ok but, first I need for you to speak with our fraud department so they can explain to you how we will not be responsible for your losses.

Believe it or not, often the customer will send the money, then a few weeks later, come back to the branch and want to be reimbursed for money that was stolen from him/her.

In one case, a 25 year old woman borrowed $8,000 to buy a car from a man in Greece. He was selling it for half it's value and was shipping it for free. The bank employees discovered what was happening when she received the loan money in her account then immediately wanted to wire it to Greece. 4 bank employees, including the fraud department begged her for 45 minutes not to send the money. She simply insisted that the bank didn't understand and that she had spoken to the man and he was a very nice person. She wired the money and a month later, when she couldn't provide proof of collateral (title) they converted the loan to a personal unsecured loan at 12.5% interest. They called her about the loan conversion and she admitted she got scammed and that once she sent the money, he stopped accepting her calls.

A week later, her mother called and asked how she could pay off the loan for her. Which she did.

As someone already said, the stupidity of Americans is funding economies around the world. Many billions of dollars are going overseas for these scams each year.

I have puppies for sale. And kittens. And baby giraffes. You could be the first idiot person on your block to have a real live giraffe in your yard. That'd be pretty hot, huh? Hell, you and me could go into a giraffe distribution business, turn 'em into the hippest pet out there. I can get 'em to you for about $350/per. We ship 'em straight from the veldt, freshest giraffes on the market.

I'm a Christian and I haven't sent money to pay for my English Lottery tickets or to help out a Nigerian political prisoner yet.

If you'd like, you can send me some money so I can get you my own special needle and thread that I like to give out to people who need to sew up their gaping, blubbery vag.

The people who run this scam deserve every penny they get in my opinion. If you are as stupid as these people and have $350 laying around then giving it to smarter-more cunning people is the price you pay for being dumb. This is in a nutshell how the rich get richer.

I know you're being facetious, but many Africans died en route to slavery in the Americas.

Asshole slave traders stuffed the ships to overcapacity, and threw the dead folks overboard as the journey progressed.

\few things must be more horrific in the annals of human history

Oh I don't know. It's hard for some people to get their minds around the fact that there are many untrustworthy types and misinformation running around the Internet.

My parents are relatively smart people who can answer most Jeopardy questions between the two of them. But even they occasionally forward stupid chain emails that really don't require a visit to Snopes to know it's bullshiat.

I think older people need "Internet Safety 101" classes before they're certified to get online.

\kids need to take "Internet Stranger Danger 101" before they can get a Myspace account

Ooo, Ooo, we have scams like this originating in America, too. They're called Rent-To-Own businesses. See, it's pretty ingenious: You give them a small up front fee, on the belief that it's the first of a few instalment payments and that when you're done, you'll own something you couldn't otherwise afford. Little do you know, by the time interest, fees, commissions, etc. are factored in, you actually just paid some guy in a bad hairpiece for the pleasure of owning your life. Hooray!! Much more elegant and American than the 419 scam.

cactusman 2008-04-06 10:50:08 AM
So Nigeria is where they make those cool plastic bricks-oops, nevermind.

Space_Poet 2008-04-06 10:51:15 AM
Umm, isn't the correct term, a code 419? Farking schmucks invoking 911 for this? People can not think of 3 numbers without putting 911 together...

It looks like I won't be getting my new dog. Anyone want to buy a real nice, unused, dog house for $350?
