Yup, and it went green then too.

It is about beer, though. I give it a pass.

Off topic, but have any of you seen the AOL boards? Every time they have a poll about Clinton or Obama, it seems like the freaks from Hillaryis44 show up and start posting BS. It's ridiculously funny. You would think Clinton was going to win president of the world based on the polls over there.. I hate polls.

Oh, and yay beer.

People still use AOL?

God, the hillaryis44 people are like freepers with cobwebbed vajajays.

And yes, the Sam Adams hop story is a month old. But it's still an awesome gesture. Jim Koch is a good man.

I only use it for the email. I imagine there are still people who load up the program, though, and I imagine that those people vote Hillary. Seriously, I refer you to this poll (new window). I think it's 'fair' and 'balanced.' Also, don't skimp over the comments, they're hillary-ious.

Yeah, I'm sure MolsonCoors/AB/SABMiller with their production at over 200 times that of Boston Beer Company, are asking for hops handouts.

It's brewers their size that keep the hops market even at what it is now.

He donates to Democratic causes.

However, this is nothing political, simply helping out small brewers. Given the high quality of his brew, you know he's given them good hops too.

Hey, Koch, don't forget Bell's Brewery in Comstock, MI. A summer without Oberon might as well be the world;s crappiest winter.

///bought first Oberon of the season today.

Their office in Boston has its own bar setup in the breakroom. When I was there last, they had lager, cherry wheat, and something else on tap. The fridges were stocked with beer as well (and also Twisted Tea).

There is nothing that can live in beer that can give you food poisoning.
Maybe it was the fifteen Taco Bell tacos you had on the way home from the bar.

But, yes, thank god for Guinness.

Bloody William 2008-04-05 08:50:02 PM
Maybe Sam Adams will taste less overwhelmingly hoppy now. Yes, you use a pound of hops in every barrel. Dial it back a bit, because all I taste is the damn hops.

Smithwick's is pretty great, but it's about as yeasty as Sam Adams is hoppy.

I think I might find a flaw in your logic here...

Chicken is not steak. It shouldn't be pink on the inside.

I've been drinking unfiltered beer all night, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies drunk......

Beer, filtered or unfiltered, will not give you food poisoning. Ever. Filtering merely clarifies the beer.

Undercooked chicken from the grill, most certainly will give you the shiats.

And Guiness is good for you.

It wasn't the chicken, since I ate hummus the second night, but drank the same Sam the second night. And the chicken was burned. Way overcooked.

Ben Franklin, another great American had something to say about beer.

"Beer is proof that God loves us"

I make no statement about God/s, but beer is good and I think I'll have one and think good thoughts about the Sam Adams people.

Having spent 13 years in the craft brewing industry, I can tell you that brewers do this sort of thing ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.

/and they don't expect to be worshiped for it

Not only is beer incapable of causing food poisoning, but marinating chicken breast in a mixture of beer and seasonings prior to grilling actually reduces your odds of it. Same thing can be done with steak. I like to use 1/2 bottle per six-ounce breast or 8-ounce steak, but it's vital to use good, great or at least mid-shelf beer for edible results -i.e., don't use anything you wouldn't serve your favorite uncle the day he came back from a combat zone. The flavor can also be varied by combining specialty beer with appropriate spices or by using a glaze during the grilling process.

Some choice examples:

Blackened Tan
Marinate in Guinness Extra Stout w/ 1/8 tsp curry powder
On grill, splash with whiskey and light, allow to flame
Sprinkle with ground ginger and serve to non-sober guests

Angry Fangirl (chicken only)
Marinate in Sam Adams Cherry Wheat w/ 1/8 tsp black pepper & 1 tsp brown sugar
Brush w/ New Orleans Bourbon Glaze on grill, blacken
Serve w/ freaky-strong hot sauce from eBay and a Cosmo

Mifune's Revenge
Marinate in Sapporo w/ 1/8 tsp wasabi powder
Brush w/ Iron Chef General Tso's glaze or Asian Zing sauce from Buffalo Wild Wings
Serve with more beer, sake on the side and good health insurance

Leave your marinating meat in the fridge overnight, then grill to taste. You can eat your steak rare as you please; I've never had consequences with beer-marinated meat. Chicken, though, had be white through-and-through, but hey, s'your trousers.

I would consider Koch to be a 100% her5o except for him being an asshat to a politician down in Oregon who has the real name of Samuel Adams. Koch pulled an infringement suit garbage on him.

Nah, it's alright. But I like that we're seeing more and more of smaller American brands over here. Drank a Weissbier from Michigan yesterday. Good stuff, somewhere between Hoegaarden and Weihenstephaner in taste.

Did anybody actually RTFA??

"About six weeks ago Boston Beer sent out notifications to small brewers that it wanted to help them by making available some of its hops at cost. The company said it received 352 requests totaling about 100,000 pounds, much more than it could give away."

The first story was them sending out the notifications, this story is about them choosing the # of breweries. If anything it deserves the follow up tag.
