The best Scorsese Stones moment is in Casino when Can't You Hear Me Knocking's opening riff starts as it scans across Nicky's crew. Totally Badass.

Won't top the one they did back in 1981 or 1982. What the fark was the name of that?

I saw Shine a Light last night. If you're at all inclined to see it -- or just love rock & roll in general -- I'd recommend seeing it on the big screen. The sound is fantastic!

was I the only one that thought the use of Gimme Shelter in The Departed seemed completely random? Granted, I thought that whole film was forced, but the song seemed be just thrown in completely at random because Scorsese apparently had the rights to use it...

Yeah, and the fact that they re-started the song half-way through was pretty jarring as well.

Seemed an afterthought.

I respectfully disagree. Masterfully crafted movie with a kickass soundtrack.

Seeing as how the Stones have made enough money out of Marty just for the film rights and royalties in soundtrack sales - it's no wonder they tapped him.

SuperCatBarf: Why is this thing getting so much play here?

Because it's a great director making a concert film of the greatest rock and roll band of all time?

Reasons I still love Mick Jagger #2845739: In regard to the release of this film he said something about how it'll be the first Scorsese movie without Gimme Shelter in it and I laughed. It's a great song but you can't use it in every damn movie or it loses the whole effect. It was ridiculous in The Departed.

Goodfellas is Casino in New York minus Sharon Stone. Or, more accurately, Casino is Goodfellas in Las Vegas with Sharon Stone.

That is why Goodfellas is far superior to Casino.

I have to wonder when clod9 saw Goodfellas. Before Goodfellas, every mob movie was primarily influenced by The Godfather, but ever since, all mob stuff has been riding on Goodfellas' coattails. It changed the way all mob movies and shows were made. Every mob piece since, The Sopranos, everything, has owed a huge debt to Goodfellas. I saw it in the theater, and I think you have to have seen it back when it came out to realize how huge of an impact it made. It changed the way America thought about the Mob.

And as far as Casino goes, when it came out, it was widely regarded as a letdown(!), following Goodfellas. It has since come to be judged on its own merits, and its impact has not been diluted by a slew of imitators the way Goodfellas has been.

xooxox: "awesome movie.. Would see it again.. A++++++++"

Well, I won't. One: I went to see the movie because since 1978 I haven't seen the Stones and this would suffice forever. Two: I'm a Scorsese fan going way back and he makes good concert documentaries. Three: It was a matinée.

SPOILER: I thought everything rocked up to Buddy Guy's appearance. It all went downhill about the time Christina Aguilera(?!!!!) got on stage.

/Christina Aguilera?!!!

god, he used Gimme Shelter 3 different movie... i actually think he used it TWICE in Departed.

next time i make a movie, and buy the Gimme Shelter royalties to use it in my film, they're gonna say i copied off Scorcese.
