Biden would not be a good pick. The Democrats should pick someone with military experience, IMO.

Because Al Gore's distinguished military record is just what Bill Clinton needed to unseat the incumbent World War II veteran.

Biden has many good points in my book. But the thing that keeps me from liking him too much (this goes for Chris Dodd as well) is his heavy handed stance against gun ownership.

Insertwitty Namehere: Jim Webb, that is all.

I can see the possibility and wouldn't mind it, but I don't think it'll happen. He wrote a novel that had some dirty parts in it and he wrote an article called "Women Can't Fight" back in the late seventies. Allen and the freeper-types attacked him for it back in 2006.

If I were Obama, I'd start hinting at Sebelius to neutralize the "vote for a woman crowd!" then after he sweeps everything to the convention, he picks Webb to neutralize the "vote for a military hero!" crowd.

I was thinking Olympia Snowe. Don't know all her positions (giggity) but I did hear of a few of her actions that seem to show her in a rather good light.

Biden and Pelosi should just STFU until Patreaus has a chance to even speak. Then they can make all the statements they want. They've already passed judgement before hearing what the guy is even going to say, and yes, they look like douchebags for it.

The stars of Petraeus's uniform doesn't make him infallible nor above criticism. He's already revealed himself to be nothing more than a White House mouthpiece. Letting Petraeus propagandize without rebuttal would be dereliction of duty by our congresscritters.

Because we've done this several times - he's Bush's guy, why would we suspect to hear anything but "it's go'n good! tough but good!"

What did Biden say that is factually incorrect?

"The purpose of the surge was to bring violence in Iraq down so that its leaders could come together politically," said Biden, D-Del., in this week's Democratic radio address. "Violence has come down, but the Iraqis have not come together."

He later added, "There is little evidence the Iraqis will settle their differences peacefully any time soon."

We don't know yet. It would be nice to hear from the people there before making that assessment. What you hear in the news here isn't always the best way to gather complete information on what is actually going on there.

Usually rebuttals come after someone has said their piece, not beforehand. That's my point.

Generals do not, in fact, hold all the facts - that's why they get briefings every morning. And do you know what happens in the background to get those briefings finished? A general's staff does not create those briefings - it's a bunch of lower enlisted and some lower ranking officers taking orders from a one or two star. And they have to fit the criteria of those one or two stars first - the four star gets a very diluted product.

That's right, dippy, some of us know what's behind the curtain, and hearings are nothing more than dog and pony shows. The generals usually have an entire staff with them that do specialize in certain aspects of information cos no one can possibly know what's really happening everywhere all the time.

The testimonies are just compilations (like a greatest hits) of all briefings pertaining to the subject at hand.

That was the explicitly stated purpose of the surge by the Bush admin. The Iraqis have not come together. The fighting in Basra was different clans of Iraqis. Not AQI. And there is no evidence anything will change soon. these are facts.

Basra, Sadr City does not equal all of Iraq. It sounds to me like one faction right now is a lone problem. Do we cave in now to Sadr and just leave then and claim the whole thing is not worth continuing?

Badr and Mahdi militia and Iraqi forces are the THREE main in Basra alone. Here is a start. Research it. It is a mess. I normally dont like Klein, but he is knowledgable on Iraq. Jaun Cole is good too.
