I think "ug-lay" has a hyphen.

It's a good thing Washington residents speak Swahili, Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba.

Just once I wish they could give a gorilla a name like Roger or Alan. Roger the Gorilla would be a TV star.

/Or name him Anaxaminder.

I'm amazed that the bible-thumpers get all offended when someone says that "we descended from apes." Have they ever watched apes? The last time I did (and this is not something I get to do regularly) I was more amazed that anyone could deny that we aren't just like them.

Seriously, we may have lost the hair, but how can anyone say that we're so different from an ape? Did we get the Special Touch of the Imaginary Dude? Get over yourself, human race.

libbyshome: I love my mommy.

'sfunny how when I got to that picture I suddenly got a speck of dust in my eye. and my allergies kicked in too. Otherwise why would I be sniffling and tearing up all of a sudden? Dust and allergies, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

What a darling baby.

whOmprat, I think they did pretty much what we hoomans do with names. They gave him a name that has a beautiful, poetic meaning in the language of his native land - "bearer of joy." Like your momma named you whOmprat, which means.... well, okay, that's a bad example. But it's a good theory otherwise.

Thanks subbbbeeee and mods. This was a lovely greenlight.

I went to Woodland Park yesterday, and was wondering why there were so many freakin' people there...

The baby gorilla is absurdly cute, though didn't get to see her do anything as her mother was looking absolutely exhausted and they were just sitting there cuddling.

Must concur on the whole "but humans can't be related to that!" silliness. Watching the social dynamics of the two groups of gorillas at said zoo you can see the wheels turning. They make and break alliances, they play, they make eye contact. And yes, sometimes they fling poo. Humans fling it as well, but it's usually more metaphorical.

/kick, replies, blah blah blah.

Apes freak me out. They are way to close to us genetically, and it's like watching hairy ugly well adapted retarded people in a cage.

semblanceofgrace: And yes, sometimes they fling poo. Humans fling it as well, but it's usually more metaphorical.

And in very, very special times, the poo flinging goes from metaphorical, to oh-so-farking real.

/Usually alcohol of the worst kind is involved

Ron Paul Revere: As an avowed believer in evolution, your observations of the similarities in behavior is far from evidence. There is a possibility that there is a God, that he did create the universe, and that he even designed human beings and animals, even to the degree that some would look and act like us.

Sure, it's far-fetched, but what you say doesn't come close to disproving it. Then again, you can't prove a negative. :)

Your middle-way answer is only going to enrage those that think that the belief in science is a religion within itself, and those that think religion is a phallacy.

Good work, good man.

Birds & Bees, man. The freakin' birds & bees.

Ron Paul Revere: That's why I love being an agnostic libertarian. My views find a way to piss both sides off and give me comfort because I know I'm right!

I'd invite you a beer, but I'm dead broke, instead I'll send you a guiness towel.

Do you think, since you're off on this line of thought, that maybe God created animals that look and act like us so that we could see that we're a part of creation, and not just the consumers of it?

Because if that's so, God needs to make some animals that look and act MORE like us. We don't seem to be getting the message.

Nice, more people should read about Koko, it is pretty amazing. I personally have no doubt they are perfectly sentient. I don't believe in "souls" but when some religious ass says only people have souls I want to biatch slap them. My dogs are better people than most people.

I agree! Especially the parts about the breast fetish and wanting to see the breasts of her keepers. She uses the word "nipple" to refer to "human".
