I used to argue with people who said she was going to win the nomination. Now I think that "evil and willing to do absolutely anything it takes" seem to be winning out over "quality and the public good."

She told that same story when she came to Mishawaka, IN a while ago.

But seriously folks, if you're even thinking of voting for this broad, what the hell is wrong with you?

"So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

I don't think Hillary knows how to not lie. Her problem is that she's trying to be an old-school politician in a Youtube world.

She got the story online slightly wrong. The pregnant girl was uninsured and did die. She was gunned down by a sniper.

Right, because as we all know, there's nothing wrong with the health care system. The people in charge of it are ethical gentlemen beyond reproach.

ExJerseyGirl [TotalFark] 2008-04-05 12:17:19 PM
A sheriff told her the story and she didn't verify the facts. Not that big of a deal.

CalvinMorallis 2008-04-05 12:23:02 PM
Ah, no big deal. She can just do the talk-show circuit and make a joke about it (Hah-Hah!) like she did on Leno.

I swear to God, when I saw that I wanted to kick her in the teeth.

GurneyHalleck: Right, because as we all know, there's nothing wrong with the health care system. The people in charge of it are ethical gentlemen beyond reproach.

There are plenty of valid examples of problems with the healthcare system without resorting to blatant lies, and her motives for lying are more for her own political gain that about helping people out. If you haven't figured this out about her by now, I have to wonder whether or not you have been paying attention to her campaign, especially when reality collides with her version of reality.

ExJerseyGirl: A sheriff told her the story and she didn't verify the facts. Not that big of a deal.

I might be willing to overlook it if she did not have a consistent pattern of lying to suit her own needs. After a while, it begins to get downright insulting to one's intelligence.

curmudge 2008-04-05 12:38:08 PM
FTFA: If Hillary Clinton wants to tell tales about the horrors of our healthcare system, then she should have her staff do some research and find some true stories to tell. It's getting to the point where every tale told by Clinton is being questioned and rebutted. Not a quality one is looking for in a president. QFT

What? Not a big deal?

All she had to do was to turn to one of her many, many assistants, volunteers, aides, etc., and say "Do a fact check on this, please...verify it with all the relevant people and institutions mentioned, call a few local newspapers while you're at it, etc..."

Is this how she will be as President? One person tells her something, so she runs with it?

Big deal, YES.

This. The story sounded like it would work for her politically, so she went with it. You can't do shiat like that as President.

Dufus [TotalFark] 2008-04-05 01:01:55 PM
if a newspaper can dig up the truth behind the story, then your staff should be able to, as well.

Isn't that one of the things that the Dems have said about the intelligence reports that Bush used to send us into Iraq? Pot, Kettle, Al Jolsen...

The Clintons are of the belief that you shouldn't hold things said in a campaign against them. An ends justify the means mentality.

That doesn't fly with me. It presupposes that the ends they seek are noble. I wish people would wake up to the fact that she's simply the other side of the coin from Bush.

People say McCain would be just another Bush. Perhaps. But Hillary would be just another Bush with cankles. Cronyism, underhanded tactics, complete disregard for the truth. Do you really want that woman in the White House now that Bush has expanded the limits of executive power?

remember, she has been building herself up as the HEALTH-CARE president. She acts as if she's the be-all and end-all source of health care knowledge. If she relayed lies that someone else told her, fine but:

how can someone that claims they are a policy wonk not know THAT YOU DON'T PAY UP FRONT FOR EMERGENCY ROOM CARE and that if you were somehow forced to THAT IT WOULD NOT COST $100

So she's either lying or incompetent
/gee, what president does that remind you of?

PocketfullaSass [TotalFark] 2008-04-05 01:13:12 PM
Another problem with this story is that being emotionally high-impact, it was clearly aimed at manipulating her female base. How better to do that than a story involving losing a baby and the mother dying? I'm not a big fan of this sort of intentional emotional manipulation. Maybe there's a place for it in some Hollywood, tear-jerking chick flicks, but in politics it's just too cynical.

That's what I was thinking. Verification of facts is not a minor matter with a president, as we've been so subtly reminded.

But she did kick Putin's ass in a judo match. Or so I've been told.

This is why it's a bad idea to hire out of work hollywood script writers to fill in for your regular speech writer. Sure, they work cheap but you end up giving speechs about dodging sniper fire in bosnia and fighting off zombies hordes in Topeka.

GAME ON!

/this deserves to be on the mainpage IMO

As was previously mentioned in this thread - hillary is an old skool politican campaigning in a 24/7 youtube wired world. shiat like this would fly in '92 or '96. Nobody could instantly fact check you back then. But nowdays? feh. People can tell if you're lying before you've even left the damn stage.

So either Hillary is incompetent and unaware of recent technological developments....or she just doesn't care and will say anything/do anything to get the nomination. Either way you cut it, it's not a good quality in a presidential candidate.

bronyaur1 [TotalFark] 2008-04-05 01:24:27 PM
The Clinton lies NEVER stop, do they? Even if it was an honest mistake, which seems unlikely, it still is a total screwup not consistent with "Ready on Day One."

If this train wreck becomes President, we will find ourselves remembering the W days fondly - THINK about that.

eqtworld: I copied and pasted the important parts in the thread (it was not very long).

I would add just one thing to your summary. A comment made by a diarist at dkos:

In my entire career as a registered nurse in Ohio, I have never known a hospital to require payment before delivering medically necessary care. In fact, I have always understood that it is illegal for them to do so. Is that true?

Yes, it is true. A pregnant woman "having problems" is turned away from an ER?

That should sound the BS alarm in everyone hearing this Clintonism.

eqtworld: /Back on topic if she is going to lie she should weave an intricate web of fake evidence and trickery; at least put for some effort like Bush did: This shiat is just lazy

For what it's worth, my impression is that both Bill and Hillary lie and obfuscate more out of habit than out of any conscious effort to be evil. It's just how they do business.

That's not an excuse mind you, just an observation.

Her "slip-ups" are far too embellished for them to be honest mistakes. Picking the wrong word is a slip-up. Fabricating reality is lying.

Look, at this point in the game, anyone who's been paying any attention at all KNOWS that Hillary is a lying scumbag. There's no way to deny it - we have more than sufficent evidence that this woman cannot be trusted.

So let's put that aside for the moment. Factor out the obviousness of a lying politican. Why would people still want to vote for and/or support Hillary? I can only think of two reasons:

1. Hillary will do things in support of certain ideological policy positions that Obama won't. So people will vote for her based on what's in it for them and ignore the fact that they're voting for a vote whoring control freak.

2. Hillary is the Chosen One. The fanatics don't care about facts or the lies or the hypocrisy. They're True Believers spidey fans! Hillary is going to win because she's gonna win! And nothing we say or do will change their minds.

I'm wondering if any further discussion about this is even worth the bother? It's not like we're going to convince any of the above two groups to change their minds and stop voting for Hillary.

Andrew Sullivan and Christopher Hitchens were on Tim Russert today - it'll replay if you want to catch an interesting discussion. They were talking about Hillary and health care, and how she keeps saying that she learned form her mistake in the 90s and will do better. But Sullivan pointed out that she never says *what* she learned. She hasn't seemed to learn anything. Her problem in 1993 was that she hated any plan which wasn't hers, no matter how practical or decent, and wouldn't let anyone deviate from her ideas.

That's exactly what she is still doing. Obama's health care plan is different from hers, but its still a pretty comprehensive plan. What does she do? She savages it, sayings its bullshiat and we can't have it. She trumpets her way as the only way.

What the hell has she learned from her errors, exactly? It seems the only thing she learned from farking is how how to talk about it make her sound experienced.

Is my "tens of millions women are eager to vote with their vagina" a subset of this?

You see them at every rally: women holding up signs saying "232 years of men ends in 2008!!" or "The best man for the job is a woman!" or "It's OUR turn!"

I know people have voted for BS "demographic" reasons forever, but I have never (in my lifetime) seen bigotry-based voting so publicly and proudly displayed.

Hillary 'learned' that Obama could actually manage to 'steal' the nomination away from her. THAT got her attention, but it took a bit for the lesson to sink in....

I don't think either Bill or Hill bother with details. In fact I'd doubt they've had anything remotely resembling an original thought for decades. Hillary isn't in this race because she thinks she's got the better plan. She's in this race because she wants to be President. Nothing more, nothing less. How she gets there isn't all that important to her.
