I would just like to state for public record that I would not accept the VP slot either. I figure that if the nominee was down to Edwards on their list of choices, I would be next.

Ugh. I cringed ever time he said "mill." He pronounces it like "meeel".

McCain caught in another lie. (^) this time about his fighting to make MLK day a holiday in Arizona. And he lied about it while a black man held his umbrella for him in Memphis in front of the place where King was shot.

Does he really think people are so stupid they can't see through his lies?

The headline I submitted yesterday was: "John Edwards declines job no one offered him. That means he wants it."

/ahem.

Dolt.

After his keynote speech at CTIA, the annual U.S. wireless industry showcase, Edwards was asked in a question-and-answer session if he would accept the nomination for vice president.

"No," said Edwards, who also declined to say whether he would endorse Clinton or Obama.

Hillary's polls haven't flatlined yet. I'd say that's a decent litmus test for your question. :p

fishsticks 2008-04-04 03:19:49 PM
But he could be the first son-of-a-mill-worker-with-really-great-hair-american vice president. It would be historic!

DarnoKonrad 2008-04-04 03:22:27 PM
Someone should ask him again to make sure. I mean really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really . . .

make absolutely positively sure he doesn't want the VP slot. He may not have been asked this enough.

yequalsy 2008-04-04 03:40:04 PM
Well he wouldn't be the first person to run for VP with two different people. That's the best I can say for it. Let's nominate John, he sucks less than Lieberman. Meh.

Mistah Scrotie 2008-04-04 03:48:58 PM

Depends if McCain asks Lieberman first

That would probably be the perfect excuse for Obama hating Hillary supporters to vote for McCain.

Still wouldn't work tho. I can't figure out why he's beating this war into the ground? Lieberman would just push it even further.

I'm not following you. Several people have run twice for VP with different presidential nominees, so Edwards would not be the first. But certainly if Lieberman was the choice for McCain then he'd be the first to run for VP for both the major parties.

The most dangerous place in the world is between John McCain and a tv camera. The second most dangerous place is between Joe Lieberman and a tv camera. Those two on a ticket would create a vortex that would suck the moon into our orbit and destroy life as we know it.

Maybe he and Zombie Paul Tsongas and could pair up on the Moderate UnDeadocratic ticket.

Um, the moon being in orbit is kinda part of the definition of a moon.

Mr. Anon you're right, I'd rewritten the sentence and butchered the meaning. I meant suck it into the Earth or something equally inane like that.

mobombhead 2008-04-04 04:05:30 PM
Heh - Edwards was the only viable candidate for President. It comes as no surprise that he was shunned by democrats. They have a history of not picking people who could actually be elected president.

Supreme Court Justice John Edwards cannot be a SCJ if he is VP.

I guess being an NDPer from Canada I had a specially affinity for someone who wanted to tackle poverty and injustice in the States more than the other candidates. But I can certainly see why he's unpopular down there, and just to me it seems like he would rather be secretary of labour or something like that.

The guy was simply taking the populist stance because no one else (at the time) was using it. His platform was so devoid of substance that it managed to make the rest of the rest of the field look good by comparison. Anti-NAFTA pandering doesn't count as a presidential platform.

Theaetetus 2008-04-04 05:34:12 PM
PeteyNice: Supreme Court Justice John Edwards cannot be a SCJ if he is VP.

Why not? We've had an ex-president become a Justice. Edwards could resign his veep position, become a Justice, and let Obama appoint a replacement, such as Gore. Or Kucinich. Or Ron Paul and throw everyone for a loop.

I think that if Jack Layton were a multimillionaire lawyer with an $8 million mansion and a penchant for fancy haircuts (OK, or a propensity for hair), I'd have a little harder time warming up to him.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-04-04 06:07:37 PM
Edwards will probably be Hillary's choice for "Poverty Czar"
She wants his 26 delegates.

Gangway Fathead 2008-04-04 06:16:18 PM
Edwards is the perfect VP for either candidate. He's a young white guy from the south with some populist appeal. Substance doesn't matter as much as the demos he brings.

Fano 2008-04-04 06:55:00 PM
The most perfectly bizarre question is asked on this cover:

The answer is no, he cannot.

Hell, you could ask that of any politician. And if you are currently actively backing a politician then you need to examine how stupid you are.

very funny, and true I suppose

Mr. Xhin: Vice President Wesley Clark!!

I think that would rule, it would do a TON to cancel out McCain's military experience.

"I spent years in a POW prison"
"oh yea, I was Supreme Allied Commander of NATO during the Kososvo war."
