nah, "american gangster" was fresh.

jay-z was worth about $250 million before this deal, too...
before it's all said and done, he has a shot at being the first rapper to turn rap money into $1 billion.

/if you can't respect that, your whole perspective is wack.

Jay-Z is the Garth Brooks of rap.

I've gotta say. I can't think of anyone in hip hop who has the catalog Jay does, short of maybe Outkast. Kingdom Come is really his only mistep, and it's still pretty decent. But like, Blueprint, The Black Album, and American Gangster are easily 3 of the best albums ever in hip hop.

Right now, the song "I know".. Good lord. Writing from the perspective of heroin, as a lover trying to coo back a wounded mate... That's a pretty impressive piece of work. As strong lyrically as anything I've heard in a long time.

I guess I respect him like I respect Wal-Mart or McDonald's. They make a lot of money too, but there's damn little else I can think of about them I care for.

BTW, did he sample Max Romero or something?

Srsly, I don't really like much rap AT ALL that's been recorded since Vanilla Ice (merely named for a time perspective - never owned the cd, cassette, record, 8-track, dat, reel to reel, dcc, sacd, md, dvda, or any other format that has ever been in existence, except for the 12" single of Ice Ice Baby - that I will cop to). I love Jay-Z's music.

//one of the best lyricists in the business
///no pad, no pen, no problem
////crazy mad rhymes without EVER WRITING THEM DOWN
//I got 14 slashies but there ain't just one

He's a business, man.

Live Nation will run the industry in the next few years. All the money is in the live experience which cannot be replicated in a free download off the intertubes. Live Nation are good at what they do, they revived Korn when they were dead. They're putting STP in amphitheaters when their last tour was in clubs.

Garth Brooks is trash compared to good country, Jay-Z has put out several of the best albums in rap, including one (blueprint) which is probablly the best.

Archie Godwin:

Wow he made a lot of money off of retards that buy his crap. If you respect people because they make a lot of money, you are a farking retard.

About 35 percent of his Net worth is off of his record sales.

/Sean Carter is a true hustler
//Respect is definitely due
///"I cant get with that" The song that started it all 1994 if i remember correctly.

Jay Z is a pop tart, how are you guys saying he's a great? Nas, Biggie, Pac, Wu Tang (specifically Ghostface, Method, GZA, RZA, Inspectah Deck), Redman, and underground cats like Common and Mos Def have all made better music and actually "kept it real" in the process. In the words of Tupac Shakur, "fark JAY-Z!".

Other than Pac obviously, those artists have total respect for how talented he is. Common was STOKED when Jay shouted his name out on a track. Jay-Z is just a better businessman in addition to being a rapper of the calibre of all the ones you mentioned.
