Umm... in case you hadn't noticed, Carter has earned a great deal of respect in the last couple decades. Yes, consensus is that as a President he was mediocre at best, but he's highly regarded for his charitable foundation and his diplomatic efforts.

It's too bad he's officially keeping quiet about who he supports.

Stirfry 2008-04-03 10:49:27 AM
Who are you classifying as worst? Most people think Nixon, but Nixon was actually pretty good as a President except for the whole Watergate thing....

Maybe you're referring to Bush, which I could get behind...

Carter bashing? Really?

How many Farkers who were alive when Carter was President are actually in on this? Because I can't imagine anyone being President at that time period coming out of it looking good.

Yes it was difficult for him having a curly perm, wearing 22" bell bottoms and stax.

It seems to me that the last few presidents have set a new bar in terms of being bad (corruption, incompetence, dishonesty, etc.) I think Carter now looks pretty good in comparison.

It seems to me that the last few decades have seen new levels of media access to and scrutiny of the words and deeds of political leaders.

He had something like 15% approval rating when he left office.

Jimmy Carter was a great president and continues to be an even better human being. We are better off today because of the work he accomplished as POTUS.

Too bad most of the respect he has garnered has been for his actions since leaving office...

He was an impotent leader and an utter failure as President.

Looking at things rationally, Bush II has been the worst thing to happen to the US since Johnson, Johnson at least left a few good things.

Bush II is leaving your republic much weakend, and broke.

personally, I would not want to be the next us prez, it will be a setup to fail one.

Timanous: He was an impotent leader and an utter failure as President.

How was he a failure? You think it was his fault the Saudi's raised the price of oil? His fault that the CIA created a trumped up "Hostage Crisis"? Both of those were political hit jobs on Carter. He wanted to take steps to end poverty and reduce dependency on foreign oil. It was working too.

The CIA, weapons dealers and oil barons were quite alarmed - so they hired an actor to be POTUS and told him what to say and the rest is history.

I also how like how he recently tried to rewrite modern middle eastern history.

Can't fault him for that Habitat for Humanity stuff though.

Bull. Polk was one of the greatest presidents ever. Extremely underrated in my not so humble opinion.

HillbillyBubba [TotalFark] 2008-04-03 02:08:09 PM
Carter is possibly one of the finest individuals to ever sit behind the desk in the Oval Office. Unfortunately, America hated his "nice guy" image and his own party ended up throwing him under the bus in '80. That's how we began the path to George W.

/Yes, I just blamed the 1980 election for putting Dubya in office.

what_now [TotalFark] 2008-04-03 02:08:33 PM
I hate how Carter tried to scare everyone into thinking that depending on foreign oil was a bad thing! That was so stupid! Since then, we haven't had a single problem resulting from our interference with and dependence on oil producing nations!

Carter wasn't a good man, like Reagan.

Hang On Voltaire [TotalFark] 2008-04-03 02:08:52 PM
In fairness to Obama I don't think he can help that Hanoi Jane endorsed him. If he had guts he would reject her endorsement.

His failure was freezing prices a big economic no no....

His other failure is assuming the best about his adverseries.
