it's not quite as irrelevant as you think. Though headlining Klaus as just the ex-Kraftwerk drummer is a bit disingenuous.

Kraftwerk and Neu! have had a huge influence on modern music. Huge is an understatement.

If that's true, then he deserved to die.

If you died and there was a thread posted, I'm guessing that would be just a little closer to the bottom.

I've got friends who are big Neu! fans. They will not be pleased by this news.

by the way, isn't the picture in the article from the Kraftwerk's Rolf Und Florian album cover? (in other words, it's not Klaus)

Yeah, that's Ralf when he had his hippy hair.

I thought the article would be about Karl Bartos or Wolfgang Flur.

They had a drummer?

craigdamage 2008-04-02 06:04:20 PM
Neu! was a very highly influential band.

other great "krautrock" bands also include:

Can
Faust
Tangerine Dream
Amon Duul
Guru Guru
Popol Vuh
Klaus Schulze
Cosmic Jokers
Ashra Tempel

I think "Oxymoron" by Guru Guru and "Eye Shaking King" by Amon Duul are on youtube somewhere.

Great stuff.
Very stoned music.
I always manage to educate folks of the greatness of kraut rock by way of Pink Floyd.
If you dig "Pompeii" and "Saucerful of Secrets" era Floyd you will most likely appreciate the kraut stuff too.

The first Ashra Tempel record sounds a lot like Hendrix or Trower jamming with Pink Floyd circa 1970.

Karl Bartos and Wolfgang Flur are still alive then?

This headline is a tad iffy.

Aw man,

Time to go listen to some older Kraftwerk.

yeah, it's kind of annoying that everyone here is talking about Kraftwerk when Dinger had more to do with Neu! than Kraftwerk, who are arguably just as important as Kraftwerk.
craigdamage, I know I recommended this way back but I'm not sure if you got the post (I posted it after the thread was more or less dead), but Heldon's "Interface" album would probably be right up your alley. Yeah, they're French, not German, but it sounds like Robert Fripp jamming with Jaki and Irwin of Can.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-04-02 06:54:08 PM
I have "Trans Europe Express", "Autobahn" on cd, and "Radioactivity" on vinly.
Good stuff.
btw, pope183, my cd cover omitted the bottom of that cover, which looks like the record cover... interesting.... they were probably pressed for space and had to omit something...

wait a minute.... thats' too tall to be a record cover..it's not completely square... more like a rectangle....
was that a poster???

Transpogue 2008-04-02 06:57:01 PM
Hee...on vinly.

Probably mastered using dobly.
